King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted actor Stanley Tucci for a lavish dinner at their country residence, Highgrove House, in preparation for their upcoming visit to Italy. The Italian-American actor and food expert, Tucci, curated a special meal for the royal couple, blending British ingredients with Italian culinary traditions. This event took place on February 7, setting the stage for their anticipated trip to Italy, where they will meet Pope Francis in early April, coinciding with their 20th wedding anniversary on April 9.

Although King Charles, 76, is still undergoing cancer treatment, he is showing resilience by continuing his royal engagements. The royal couple’s visit to Italy aligns with the Jubilee year for the Catholic Church and they will participate in the celebrations as “Pilgrims of Hope.” This visit holds significance as King Charles now serves as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, making this meeting with Pope Francis a momentous occasion.
The dinner at Highgrove Gardens was attended by a prestigious guest list including Victoria and David Beckham, Helen Mirren, and Donatella Versace. Alongside them were representatives from The King’s Foundation, as well as advocates for the Slow Food and Fashion movements, all gathering to honour sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.

Chef Francesco Mazzei designed the menu for the event under the influence of Tucci’s culinary expertise. Known for his show “Tucci – The Heart of Italy,” where he explores and celebrates Italian cuisine, Tucci’s inspiration shone through in the meticulously crafted dishes. The entire meal was prepared using British ingredients with a touch of Italian flair, embodying the ethos of Slow Food.
The culinary experience at Highgrove House was complemented by drinks curated by Italian mixologist Alessandro Palazzi, who integrated Italian flavours and locally foraged herbs from the Highgrove Gardens. The guests were treated to a gastronomic feast that celebrated the fusion of two rich culinary traditions in a truly royal setting. The evening also featured a showcase of sustainable fashion and traditional craftsmanship by students and alumni from The King’s Foundation, emphasising the importance of preserving heritage skills.
Earlier in the week, King Charles marked World Cancer Day, reflecting on his own battle with cancer that was revealed to the public last year. Despite his health challenges, the King expressed solidarity with those affected by cancer, acknowledging the support of healthcare professionals, charities, and families in their fight against the disease. This message of resilience and empathy resonated with many touched by the King’s own health journey.
As the royal couple prepares for their State Visits to the Holy See and Italy in April 2025, this intimate dinner with Stanley Tucci served as a prelude to the cultural exchange and diplomatic engagements that lie ahead. With a blend of tradition, innovation, and a shared love for gastronomy, King Charles and Queen Camilla are poised to embark on a memorable journey that bridges nations and celebrates the enduring ties between the United Kingdom and Italy.
