A recent alert has been issued for JLM-brand Dark Chocolate Nonpareils across the nation due to a significant risk of triggering “serious or life-threatening allergic reactions,” according to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Michigan-based Lipari Foods initiated the recall of their 14-ounce packages of JLM Branded “Dark Chocolate Nonpareils” after it was discovered that the product may contain “undeclared milk.” As of now, no illnesses have been reported, urging consumers who bought the affected batches to return them to the store of purchase.

The recall announcement was made public on Friday, June 20, following the revelation of a potential allergen threat in the dark chocolate nonpareils. Individuals with milk allergies are particularly at risk of severe reactions if they consume these products. The FDA indicated that the product was distributed nationwide in 14-ounce clear plastic tubs, containing specific lot numbers like 28202501A, 29202501A, 23202504A, 14202505A, 15202505A, or 03202506A. No cases of illness related to the recall have been reported so far.
Notably, this recall was prompted by Lipari Foods upon notification from the Pennsylvania-based Weaver Nut Company, a key distributor and manufacturer of candy and nuts. Customers who have purchased the 14-ounce packages affected by the recall are advised to bring them back to the store for a complete refund. Despite attempts to reach out to Lipari Foods for comment on June 21, no immediate response was received.
It’s imperative to highlight that similar instances of chocolate recalls have been witnessed in recent times. In December 2024, Cal Yee Farms also recalled some chocolate products due to potential presence of “undeclared milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds”. The FDA elevated the risk assessment of this recent recall in January this year, after suspicions arose about undeclared milk content in the products.
