Jason Mutterer, the principal of Mansfield Summit High School in Arlington, left the graduating seniors in awe with a heartfelt gesture. Mutterer took the time to write a unique note to each of the 443 graduating students, along with a $1 bill, as a symbol of random acts of kindness.

In a Facebook post on May 31, Mutterer expressed his motivation behind this act of kindness. He believed that 443 random acts of kindness could initiate a ripple effect of positive change, potentially impacting thousands of students in the Mansfield ISD community. His message urged the students to carry the “Summit Love” they developed at high school out into the world to spread kindness.

Having served at Summit High School for 23 years, Mutterer emphasised to the graduates that their graduation signified the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. He encouraged them to step out of the shadows of those before them and shine their unique light of “Summit Love” in the world, bringing hope and dispelling fear.

During the graduation ceremony, Mutterer distributed the personalised notes alongside the seniors’ diplomas, leaving many students deeply moved by his gesture. A graduating student, Eduardo Estrada, recalled Mutterer’s emotional moment during the ceremony and expressed his disbelief at the principal’s dedication to writing 443 individual letters.

Another graduate, Andrea Lozada, shared a snippet of the letter she received from Mutterer, expressing gratitude for her involvement in the girls’ track program. The personal touch in each message resonated with the students, creating a memorable and touching graduation experience.

In an interview with Today, Mutterer elaborated on his actions, affirming that his students mean a great deal to him, making the gesture deeply personal. The Mansfield Independent School District praised Mutterer in a Facebook post, recognising his commitment to students and the positive impact he has on their lives beyond the classroom.

Mutterer reassured the graduating seniors that Summit High School would always be a place they could call home, regardless of where life takes them. His parting words conveyed a sense of warmth and love, wishing each student a blessed journey ahead.
