In an eagerly anticipated moment for fans around the world, BTS members RM and V have completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. The K-pop stars were discharged on Tuesday, June 10, following an 18-month commitment that temporarily halted the group’s performances and tours since 2023. The return of RM (Kim Namjoon), aged 30, and V (Kim Taehyung), aged 29, has been met with overwhelming excitement and support from devoted fans, some of whom flew in from various countries to celebrate this significant milestone.

RM served as a private in the military band unit, while V held the rank of sergeant in the special forces unit during their time in service which began in December 2023. Upon their discharge, the members were greeted with a warm reception, including a saxophone performance and salutes as a show of respect for their commitment. The band’s agency, Hybe, saw a gathering of fans outside their office in Seoul, eager to welcome back the beloved idols.
Expressing his gratitude, RM stated, “Now, I’m ready to hit the ground running again as RM of BTS. Thank you to everyone who waited and looked after us.” V shared how the mandatory army service provided him with an opportunity to reset both physically and mentally, adding, “I really want to run to ARMY as soon as I can. Thank you for waiting for us during our military service.” V also reassured fans that a complete BTS reunion is on the horizon, asking them to be patient a little while longer until the remaining members are discharged.
According to South Korean law, all able-bodied men aged between 18-28 are required to serve between 18 and 21 months in the military. Notably, other BTS members J-Hope and Jin completed their military duties in 2024. Currently, Jimin, Suga, and Jung Kook are still serving their mandatory military service but are anticipated to be released later this month, as reported by the Associated Press.
BTS, known formally as Bangtan Sonyeondan (translated to Bulletproof Boys), was established in 2013 and has achieved global acclaim. Nominated for five Grammy Awards, the group has secured six No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 list, with tracks like “Butter” and “Dynamite” enjoying continued success on the charts.
As the highly anticipated BTS reunion draws near, fans eagerly await the return of the remaining members to complete the full band lineup. The journey of RM and V through their military service has not only showcased their dedication to their country but has also highlighted the unwavering support of their loyal fan base, affirming the enduring bond between BTS and their global ARMY.
In conclusion, the completion of their military service signifies a new chapter for RM and V as they prepare to reunite with their fellow bandmates and continue their meteoric rise in the world of music and entertainment. The anticipation and excitement surrounding their return serve as a testament to the enduring popularity and influence of BTS on the global stage.
