A dramatic incident unfolded in Anchorage, Kentucky, when a Metropolitan Sewer District worker fell approximately 20-25 feet into a sewer well. The woman was conducting preventative maintenance in a sewer pumping station when the accident occurred on June 5, 2025.

Anchorage Fire and EMS detailed that a specialized rescue team, Rescue 33, along with supporting units, orchestrated a rescue plan. They utilised a “pick-off” rescue system involving a tri-pod device to reach the woman who had fallen into the well.

A video shared by Anchorage Fire & EMS on social media showed the intricate rescue operation where a rescuer descended into the well to secure the woman in a harness. After 25 minutes of careful manoeuvring, both the rescuer and the victim were successfully brought to safety.

Following the rescue, the woman was assessed at the scene by AMFEMS Medic Units and was later transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for further observation. Fortunately, she appeared to be physically unharmed despite the frightening ordeal.

Keith Ware, the sanitation worker who played a crucial role in alerting authorities to the trapped woman, recounted how he heard her cries for help and located her in the well. His quick thinking and efficient communication with emergency services were instrumental in the successful rescue operation.
