Popular podcast host, Alex Cooper, recently opened up about her decision to showcase her wedding in her new Hulu docuseries, ‘Call Her Alex’. The 30-year-old attended the premiere of the series, titled ‘Call Her Alex’, at the Tribeca Festival in New York City on Sunday, June 8. During a Q&A session at the event, she shared her motivations behind offering fans a deeper insight into her personal life.

Initially intended to capture behind-the-scenes moments from her ‘Unwell Tour’, the project evolved to encompass more significant aspects of Cooper’s life. From the inception of her media company, Unwell, to the planning and execution of her wedding with film producer Matt Kaplan, the docuseries provides a comprehensive view of her journey.

Cooper and Kaplan, who first connected over Zoom in 2020, exchanged vows on April 6, 2024, in Riviera Maya, Mexico. “I know you guys know how private Matt and I usually are, but I think this was a goal to show a little bit more,” Cooper expressed during the Q&A session. She further revealed that certain moments, notably parts of their wedding vows, never fail to evoke emotional responses from her, making her emotional each time she revisits them.

While the wedding was extensively filmed for the docuseries, not all footage made the final cut. Cooper admitted to initially questioning the necessity of showcasing the entire wedding but later found joy in reliving those moments. Reflecting on the filming process, she confessed that surrendering control over the editing aspects proved challenging, given her accustomed hands-on approach to content creation for her podcast, ‘Call Her Daddy’.

Despite the unease associated with relinquishing creative control, Cooper recognised the value in allowing director Ry Russo-Young to take the lead. She credited Russo-Young for encapsulating her story authentically, even though it meant stepping out of her comfort zone and trusting unfamiliar faces with her narrative.

The premiere of ‘Call Her Alex’ is scheduled for June 10 on Hulu, with both episodes set to release simultaneously.
