The last surviving sibling of a remarkable set of quadruplets, Carl Vincent Perricone Sr., has passed away at the age of 95. The Perricone quadruplets, known as the Alphabet Quads, were born in Beaumont, Texas, on Halloween in 1929. They were the first surviving male quadruplets globally and the second documented set of quadruplets born in the United States.

The Perricone quadruplets gained international attention following their birth, as their Italian immigrant parents, Maria Concetta “Bessie” Mazzu Perricone and Philip “Filippo” Perricone, had previously lost a daughter to whooping cough. The babies, Anthony, Bernard, Carl, and Donald Perricone, were welcomed into a family with five sons already.

As they grew, the quadruplets continued to make headlines, especially when they started school in Beaumont in 1935. Their unique bond was further highlighted when they served in the Korean War, with the assistance of then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, who ensured they could serve together in the same unit while stationed in South Korea.

Upon their return from the war, the brothers worked together at Pure Oil Refinery before pursuing different paths. Bernard was the first of the siblings to pass away in 1990, followed by Donald in 1991 and Anthony in 1998. Despite the loss of his brothers, Carl continued to lead a fulfilling life, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne Perricone, his six children, and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2010, he represented his brothers and his country at a ceremony with the South Korean president commemorating the end of the Korean War.
