A grieving family is coming to terms with the tragic loss of their beloved dog after he broke loose from a veterinary clinic and was later struck by a car on a busy highway. The incident occurred during a routine visit to the Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, where the dog named Diesel managed to escape from a team member on May 21. Diesel, a 5-year-old dog weighing about 60 pounds, was found dead on the side of the road, leaving his owners devastated.

Sadly, their efforts were in vain as Diesel was found before the extended search could resume. Diesel’s owners, Dominic and Katie Santoro, shared their heartbreak over losing their cherished family pet. Dominic fondly remembered Diesel as a sweet and nervous dog who was adored by the family. Katie described Diesel as an incredible family dog, adopted at just 6 weeks old and who had spent 5 beautiful years with them. The sudden and unexpected loss of Diesel has left the Santoro family devastated, especially their children who were able to say their goodbyes at a nearby veterinary clinic before his cremation.
