Actress Kate Hudson recently shared an exclusive insight with PEOPLE regarding a notable incident that occurred while she was filming her Netflix series, Running Point. Hudson, 46, revealed that during her time on set, she acquired a “massive” bruise, catching the attention of her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa.

Recalling the incident, Hudson shared that as she was getting into bed one evening, Fujikawa noticed the significant bruise on her left thigh and expressed his concern. This led Hudson to realise the severity of the bruise, prompting her to reflect on the cause behind it. The actress mentioned her fiancé’s reaction, stating, “And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s weird. Something’s wrong.'”

Running Point follows the story of Hudson’s character, Isla Gordon, who becomes the president of a fictional professional basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves. As the series delves into various dramatic and comedic elements, Hudson found herself accumulating multiple bruises during filming. In an intimate conversation with PEOPLE at the show’s Emmy FYC event in Los Angeles on May 30, the actress shared her experiences on set.
In the show created by Mindy Kaling, Isla Gordon takes over the family business while her brother undergoes rehabilitation for drug addiction. A particular scene involving Isla repeatedly hitting her leg against a desk drawer led to the formation of the notable bruise. Hudson explained the scenario, stating, “And then I was like, ‘Oh wait, the drug drawer.’ That’s all. I have been hitting a drug drawer for like two weeks.”
When questioned about her coping mechanism for the physical demands of filming, Hudson humorously mentioned indulging in post-work cocktails with her male castmates. The actress made light of the situation by referring to her bruises as “war wounds,” showcasing her resilient and humorous outlook on the challenges faced during production.
Joining Hudson at the Emmy FYC event were her co-stars, including Fabrizio Guido, Drew Tarver, Brenda Song, Toby Sandeman, Scott MacArthur, Chet Hanks, and Max Greenfield. The event provided a platform for the cast to share insights into their experiences working on the show and the camaraderie that developed among them.
