Hannah Kobayashi, from Hawaii, has recently shared her emotional journey of dealing with “loss, pain, and suffering” in the aftermath of her father’s tragic death by suicide. The 30-year-old woman captured national attention when she disappeared after missing a connecting flight to New York City from Los Angeles last November.

Her father, Ryan Kobayashi, had travelled to Los Angeles to search for her during the weeks-long ordeal. Sadly, he was discovered deceased in a parking lot near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 24th, just two weeks after Hannah went missing. The medical examiner’s report confirmed his cause of death as suicide, citing multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.
After returning to the U.S. and resuming her presence on social media, Hannah took to Instagram to express her feelings of sorrow and hardship. In an Instagram Stories post that has since been deleted, she expressed gratitude towards those who joined the search efforts for her. She reflected on the value of each day, especially in the face of profound loss and suffering, emphasising the importance of kindness.
Hannah hinted at the complexities of her experience and the challenges she faced during her disappearance. She acknowledged the potential for negative portrayals but asserted her commitment to sharing her truth eventually. Through her words, she advocated for empathy and understanding, encouraging people to support one another through difficult times.
In a more recent post on May 4, Hannah shared a poignant message alongside a photo of trees, calling for resilience, unity, and the triumph over fear and adversity. She addressed questions about her absence from her father’s funeral, emphasising that her focus now lies in her healing journey, peace, and creativity, with gratitude towards those offering support.
Following her return in December, Hannah issued a statement through her aunt, Larie Pidgeon, expressing her gratitude for the kindness and compassion shown to her. She highlighted her need for privacy and understanding as she continues to process the events surrounding her disappearance and her father’s passing.
Hannah’s courage in sharing her story serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support for individuals experiencing profound loss and emotional struggles. Her journey of healing and resilience resonates with many facing similar challenges, exemplifying the power of self-reflection, gratitude, and compassion in times of adversity.
