13-Year-Old ElliReese Niday Makes History by Winning U.S. Diving Championship Event

13-year-old ElliReese Niday, hailing from Georgia, achieved a remarkable feat by clinching victory in the 10-meter event at the prestigious USA Diving National Championships. Her exceptional performance not only secured her a well-deserved title but also etched her name as one of the youngest national champions in the sport’s history. Exuding excitement and determination, ElliReese expressed her aspirations saying, “It’s really crazy. Maybe one day when I grow up, I’ll make the Olympic team possibly,” in an interview with USA Diving.

The young diving prodigy comes from a family with a strong diving background as her mother also had a successful stint winning national titles in 2000 and 2001. ElliReese Niday’s triumph at the women’s 10-meter diving event held in Alabama showcased her skill and talent as she garnered an impressive 721.40 points. Surpassing her older counterpart, Texas sophomore Bayleigh Cranford, by 10 points, she emerged as the youngest winner of a senior national diving championship in an individual event since 2016.

Reflecting on her victory, ElliReese humbly shared, “It doesn’t feel real. I just tried to stay focused on my own dives and celebrate after,” during an interview with USADiving. Turning her sights towards greater opportunities, she expressed her ambitious dream of potentially representing her country at the Olympic Games in the future. Despite her outstanding performance, ElliReese’s age poses a restriction as she is ineligible to compete in the World Championships this summer due to not turning 14 by the year’s end.
