They proceeded to blindfold the victim, restrain his hands, and lock him in the trunk of a vehicle before abandoning him in a secluded wooded location, as reported by WSYR. The victim was later safely returned home, whilst at least four other students managed to evade a similar fate. The severity of the incident was underscored by Fitzpatrick during a press conference, where he condemned the act as unacceptable and beyond comprehension in the modern era. He emphasised the gravity of the situation and expressed disbelief that such a heinous act could be carried out with the belief of impunity. Fitzpatrick gave the implicated students a 48-hour ultimatum to surrender themselves. Failure to comply would result in charges of second-degree kidnapping as adults, whereas cooperation would lead to misdemeanor charges in family court, sparing them from a criminal record. All 11 students obliged and turned themselves in within the stipulated time frame, indicating a recognition of the inappropriateness of their actions. The district attorney stressed the recklessness and insensitivity demonstrated by the offenders. The lacrosse team’s season was consequently cancelled, and the school superintendent, Stephen Durham, vowed to address the underlying cultural issues of the program to prevent any recurrence of such grave misconduct.
