A seven-year-old boy from Utah found himself in a heap of trouble after taking his mother’s car and embarking on a nine-mile drive with his younger sister. The Ogden City Police Department received reports of a reckless driver near 21st Street and Wall Avenue in Ogden on Sunday, April 27, around 8 a.m. The concern was raised by a passerby who noticed a vehicle, driven by a child, swerving on the road.
Further investigation revealed that the young driver had set off from Clearfield without his parents’ knowledge. The drive from Clearfield to Ogden covered a distance of approximately nine miles. Despite attempts by the police to intervene, the child behind the wheel refused to stop, prompting the officers to deactivate their emergency equipment and cease pursuit for the safety of the public.

The escapade came to an end when the vehicle collided with a parking strip on 40th Street after which the authorities found the boy and his sister unharmed. The duo was evaluated by medical personnel as a precaution and safely reunited with their guardians at the police station. Due to the driver’s tender age, no charges are being pressed, and the police have chosen not to disclose any further details about the incident at this time.

Whitney Bush, the children’s mother, expressed her dismay over her son’s actions, stating that he is facing severe consequences and is likely grounded for an extended period. Bush recounted that she had checked on her four children early in the morning, only to find them asleep. Later, she was informed by the Clearfield Police that her car and two of her children were missing, leaving her bewildered by the unfolding events.
Upon arriving at the crash site and subsequently being redirected to the police station, Bush learned that her children had been examined by EMS before being handed over to the authorities. She disclosed that her son’s intention was to visit McDonald’s as he had money with him, reassuring that he had buckled up during the drive.
Acknowledging that her son had exhibited some behavioral challenges, Bush emphasized that the incident on Sunday was unprecedented. Despite his aspirations to become a truck driver, she made it clear that the young boy would have to wait a bit longer before pursuing that dream. The community expressed relief that the children were unharmed and safely returned home.
It is imperative to stress the importance of child safety and the need for supervision, especially when it comes to access to vehicles. Instances like these serve as stark reminders for families to ensure preventative measures are in place to avoid such risky scenarios in the future. In the aftermath of this escapade, the family is undoubtedly grateful that no one was hurt and is now focused on addressing the underlying issues and providing the necessary support for their young son.
