Colman Domingo, known for his role in the hit series ‘Euphoria’, recently extended his support to his co-star Eric Dane after Dane disclosed his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Domingo expressed his well wishes for Dane, stating that he had just learned about the diagnosis on the same day Dane shared the news publicly.
The Emmy award-winning actor revealed that despite not having the opportunity to speak directly with Dane yet, he was hopeful about collaborating with him in the future. Domingo plays the character of Ali, who sponsors Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, while Dane takes on the role of Cal Jacobs, the patriarch of the Jacobs family, in ‘Euphoria’. The series was confirmed for a third season in February 2022, with production having commenced two months prior.

Dane bravely opened up about his ALS diagnosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, through an exclusive statement to PEOPLE on April 10. The rare degenerative condition results in progressive muscle paralysis. In his statement, Dane expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his family as he navigates this challenging chapter. Despite the diagnosis, he expressed determination to continue working, with plans to return to the set of ‘Euphoria’ shortly.
ALS patients typically face symptoms such as slurred speech, muscle weakness, and diminished motor functions. The disease affects nerve cells responsible for muscle movement, gradually impacting essential bodily functions like eating, walking, and breathing independently. While ALS currently has no cure, patients can exhibit varying life expectancies post-diagnosis, ranging from three to five years or potentially decades.
Notable individuals who have publicly disclosed their battles with ALS include Aaron Lazar, John Driskell Hopkins, Kenneth Mitchell, Stephen Hawking, Roberta Flack, and Joe Bonsall. In the face of such challenging circumstances, the outpouring of support from colleagues, fans, and the community can serve as a source of strength and comfort for those affected.
Amidst this difficult period, Eric Dane continues to demonstrate resilience and a commitment to his craft. With his forthcoming return to the set of ‘Euphoria’, Dane’s dedication and unwavering spirit are inspiring many. The entertainment industry stands united in its support for Dane, reinforcing the importance of standing together during times of adversity.
As the journey towards raising awareness and finding a cure for ALS continues, the stories of individuals like Eric Dane serve as poignant reminders of the strength and courage within us all. Through solidarity and support, we can navigate challenges with resilience and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
