In a recent interview, Ryan Coogler, the director of the groundbreaking film “Black Panther,” opened up about the profound impact of the late Chadwick Boseman’s death on both himself and actor Michael B. Jordan. The film, released in 2018, featured Boseman in the role of T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, while Jordan played the menacing Erik Killmonger, who challenged T’Challa’s reign.

Tragically, in August 2020, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 after battling colon cancer. During a press tour for his latest project, Sinners, in which Jordan stars, Coogler revealed that Boseman’s death had hit Jordan the hardest. He described Boseman as a “fully baked man from the South,” portraying a sense of maturity and wisdom that deeply impacted those around him.

Coogler reflected on how Boseman’s presence on set not only influenced the film but also left a lasting impression on those who worked with him. He highlighted Boseman’s dedication to his craft, noting how the actor remained in character even when the cameras weren’t rolling, as witnessed by an executive from Disney during the filming of “Black Panther.”

Coogler shared how he encouraged Jordan to channel Boseman’s approach to acting, asking himself, “What would Chad do in this role?” This guidance helped deepen Jordan’s performance and commitment to their current project, Sinners.

Sinners, slated for release on April 18, follows the journey of twin brothers who return to their hometown seeking redemption, only to confront new challenges that test their resolve. Coogler praised Jordan’s portrayal in the film, attributing much of his performance to the influence and inspiration he drew from working alongside Boseman.

Throughout the interview, Coogler underscored Boseman’s profound impact on both himself and Jordan, characterising him as a mentor whose lessons extended beyond acting.
