Legendary actor Danny DeVito recently shared his delight at seeing his three children following in his and his wife Rhea Perlman’s footsteps into the entertainment industry. At the 11th Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Santa Monica, California, DeVito, 80, revealed in an exclusive chat with PEOPLE that his family had just completed working on a film together. The project involved his son, Jacob, who is 37 years old and served as a producer, and his eldest daughter, Lucy, aged 42, who had a role in the film. Danny and Rhea Perlman, 77, who have been married since 1982, also have a middle daughter named Grace, who is 40 years old.
According to DeVito, it seemed almost inevitable that his children would venture into the entertainment industry given their upbringing. Both he and Perlman are in the same profession, constantly discussing films and television at home. He mentioned, “So they mainly majored, in college, in art and in history. So you had a feeling that Lucy always wanted to act, so she’s been doing that. And my daughter Gracie is a painter and Jake is a producer.” He added that Jacob is likely to move into directing in the future, bringing the family much joy and happiness.
Having started his acting and filmmaking career back in 1970 with the movie Dreams of Glass, Danny DeVito has since been a prominent figure in the industry. Apart from his role in the long-running sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, DeVito and his family are currently working on developing more TV shows as part of their diverse projects.
