A bank teller working at Regions Bank in Smyrna, Georgia, has been accused of stealing money from an elderly customer, whom she was pretending to assist. According to reports from WSB-TV and court records viewed by PEOPLE, Stephanie Rose Kilbert allegedly withdrew $8,000 from the victim’s account without his knowledge through ATM withdrawals between October and November 2024. Kilbert, who was a regular employee at the Smyrna branch, made multiple transactions over a period of time, ultimately exploiting the elderly individual.

This shocking incident of financial exploitation came to light when a Regions Bank representative confirmed that Kilbert had been terminated from her position in February. The customer, who fell victim to Kilbert’s actions, was promptly credited for all the reported transactions. The bank representative assured the public that they have a zero-tolerance policy towards such behaviour and are committed to working with law enforcement to ensure justice is served in this case.

Stephanie Rose Kilbert faced charges of exploiting an elderly or disabled person and theft in connection to the incident. The Cobb County arrest warrant detailed the transactions that took place without the victim’s consent, indicating a clear breach of trust on Kilbert’s part. Judge Brendan Murphy set a $15,000 bond for Kilbert during a court hearing on Tuesday, April 2, as legal proceedings unfolded.
In response to inquiries regarding the case, a representative for Cobb County Police did not immediately provide additional information. The community and law enforcement agencies alike are undoubtedly concerned about the vulnerability of elderly individuals to such acts of financial abuse, highlighting the need for vigilance and oversight in financial transactions involving senior citizens.
This unfortunate episode serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding the financial well-being of seniors, who are often targeted by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit their trust and vulnerability. As the legal process unfolds, it is crucial for authorities to take swift action to hold accountable those who abuse their positions for personal gain at the expense of others.
Instances of financial exploitation, especially involving vulnerable populations like the elderly, require a concerted effort from both financial institutions and regulatory authorities to prevent and address such misconduct effectively. The impact of such actions extends far beyond the financial loss incurred, affecting the emotional well-being and trust of those who fall victim to such deceptive practices.
As the investigation into this case continues, it is imperative for the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or signs of financial abuse targeting elderly individuals. By raising awareness and taking proactive measures to protect vulnerable members of society, we can work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for all individuals, particularly those at risk of financial exploitation.
