Dua Lipa, the renowned pop sensation, can now breathe a sigh of relief as a copyright infringement lawsuit over her chart-topping track “Levitating” has been thrown out. The lawsuit, filed back in 2022, alleged that Lipa had plagiarised the disco song “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” by songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer.

In a recent ruling by Manhattan judge Katherine Polk Failla, it was determined that there was no substantial similarity between Lipa’s “Levitating” and the songs in question, leading to the dismissal of the lawsuit. The judge’s decision highlighted the intricate nuances of musical composition, drawing comparisons to various iconic artists like Wolfgang Mozart, Gilbert and Sullivan, and the Bee Gees.

While Dua Lipa’s attorney is yet to respond to the ruling, Jason T. Brown, representing L. Russell and Linzer, expressed their intent to appeal the decision.
