A tragic incident unfolded on Friday, November 6, when two licensed skydivers lost their lives after colliding midair during a jump in Lake Elsinore, California. The event, organised by Skydive Elsinore, involved a group of 20 skilled female skydivers who had jumped from a height of approximately 12,500 feet.

According to Josh Hall, the general manager and co-owner of Skydive Elsinore, the initial stages of the jump proceeded smoothly, with all participants experiencing a regular freefall. Eyewitness accounts corroborated that both skydivers successfully deployed their parachutes as intended. However, disaster struck when they were preparing to land at around 150 feet above the ground.
It was reported that during this crucial phase, the two skydivers collided, resulting in their parachutes becoming entangled. The impact of the collision led to severe injuries for both individuals as they descended to the ground. Skydive Elsinore stated that the injuries sustained were of a “traumatic” nature and both skydivers were in critical condition upon landing.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the 20700 Block of Cereal Street following reports of traumatic injuries involving the skydivers. Firefighters from the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department confirmed their attendance at the scene, where medics provided immediate assistance. When deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) arrived, they found the two skydivers receiving medical care on the ground.
As stated by RCSO Lieutenant Deirdre Vickers, both individuals were suffering from major injuries and were quickly transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. Tragically, they were later pronounced dead after receiving further medical attention.
In a press release, Skydive Elsinore expressed its condolences, emphasising that both skydivers were experienced licensed professionals. The company noted that they were participating in an organised skydiving event and were visiting from out of the area. Significantly, there was no indication of any equipment malfunction contributing to the incident, according to the company.
Skydive Elsinore has confirmed that they are fully cooperating with ongoing investigations led by local authorities. The company also expressed its grief over the loss, extending heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased.
As of now, the names of the deceased skydivers are being withheld to facilitate notification to their next of kin. This incident has raised concerns within the skydiving community about safety protocols and the inherent risks involved in such extreme sports.
Skydive Elsinore, a well-regarded establishment in the skydiving industry, operates within strict safety guidelines aimed at preventing accidents. However, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability associated with aerial sports.
The local community has rallied to provide support and condolences for those affected by this incident, highlighting the shared grief in light of such a heartbreaking occurrence.
While the investigation continues, both the skydiving community and the victims’ families seek answers and closure in the wake of this devastating incident.
