In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Hayek conveyed her positive feelings about ageing, stating, “It sounded so scary in the 20s, in the 30s, in the 40s, even in the 50s. It’s not scary at all. Once you get here, it’s not bad at all.” The actress, who celebrated her 60th birthday on 2nd September, radiated enthusiasm and contentment as she reflected on her life journey thus far.

Hayek, known for her roles in films like *Magic Mike’s Last Dance* and *Frida*, also underscored the importance of maintaining her passions. She expressed gratitude for the support of her family and friends, noting that she still enjoys her work and is filled with energy and dreams. “I’m still doing what I love, and I have the blessing of my family and friends and health and energy and dreams. Let’s go,” she remarked, showcasing her vibrant spirit.

Not only has she embraced her latest birthday, but Hayek has also entered a new chapter in her career by making her directorial debut with the film *Arena*, which is yet to be released. When asked about her aspirations moving forward, she responded, “I just directed my first film and that’s very exciting.” However, she also emphasised living in the moment, adding, “Well, let me finish this one. Let’s stay in the present. It’s great. The present is great.”
Throughout the years, Hayek has confidently navigated her evolving self-image, choosing to celebrate her curves and rejecting procedures like Botox, which many perceive as markers of beauty in Hollywood. She has often used her platform to challenge conventional beauty standards, striving to lead by example in embracing natural beauty as she ages.
In a playful tribute to her 60th birthday, Hayek marked the occasion with a candid Instagram post that showcased her celebrating life. The post featured an array of photographs, including ones of her swimming nude, symbolising her newfound freedom and gratitude. She captioned the images simply with, “60 and grateful,” capturing her sentiment perfectly.
Additionally, before her milestone birthday, Hayek experienced the joy of becoming a grandmother for the first time. Her stepson, François Pinault Jr., welcomed a baby boy with his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck. Hayek relayed her excitement about this new addition to her family, sharing a clip on Instagram where she lovingly cradled her grandson, who has been named François after his father and grandfather. With a touch of affection, she revealed her intention to nicknamed him “Panchito”.
Hayek’s family extends beyond her immediate relationships. She shares a daughter, Valentina, who is now 19, with her husband François-Henri Pinault, and also plays a role in the lives of Pinault’s three older children from previous relationships: François, Mathilde, and Augustin.
As Salma Hayek embraces her 60s with such grace and optimism, her reflections serve as a reminder that each decade brings new opportunities for growth and joy. With her unwavering commitment to her passions and family, Hayek stands as an inspiring figure, encouraging others to approach their own milestones with courage and optimism.
