Actress Jennifer Garner recently recounted a memorable day in Paris planned by renowned cookbook author Ina Garten during a guest appearance on Garten’s podcast, *Happy Hour with Ina Garten*. The actress, 54, celebrated this cherished experience while sharing insights about her travels and family life.

During her podcast discussion, Garner reflected on a time when she took her young family to Paris. At the time, her ex-husband Ben Affleck was in London filming a superhero movie. Garner shared, “When my kids were really little, I went to Paris because Ben was shooting some Batman-ish movie in London and we went for six weeks. I took them out of school.” She noted this adventure as being uniquely special, recalling the joy of exploring the City of Lights with her children.
Garner recalled that the trip marked a significant family experience, particularly for her youngest child, who was only four at the time. The actress fondly described her son wrapped in a beautiful purple scarf gifted by Garten, showcasing the sentimental value the trip held. “I sent you all these pictures. And you told me to go down the Seine in a boat. And I’ve done it now — every time I go [to Paris],” she shared, illustrating how Garten’s guidance became a cherished tradition.
The actress later revisited Paris with her daughter Violet, who has a keen interest in French culture and language. Upon arriving, Garner reached out to Garten for recommendations on must-see locations. “I texted you and said, ‘I think we’re close to where your apartment is in Paris, and where should we go?’ And you led my daughter and me…you led us on a tour from far away,” Garner recalled. The recommendations included visits to Polène, a popular handbag store, and Barthélémy, a renowned cheese shop.
Garner and Garten reminisced over the delightful culinary stops and tallied up the special locations they explored. “We went to a soufflé restaurant that’s no longer there that you sent us to,” Garner said, expressing how the tour fostered unique memories between mother and daughter. The experience became a focal point of bonding, as Violet later recreated the itinerary for herself during another trip to Paris.
Balancing her professional commitments with family life has been a significant theme for Garner over the years. In a recent interview with *InStyle*, she spoke candidly about prioritising her children during their early years. Garner explained, “When my kids were little, I worked so little, and then we had such an upheaval in our family, that I really hardly worked for a long time.” This choice reflects her dedication to nurturing her family through challenging times.
Now that her children, Samuel, 13, Seraphina, 17, and Violet, 20, have grown older, Garner is rekindling her acting career. Reflecting on her current workload, she expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has. “I feel lucky to be able to work from a place of joy,” she stated, emphasising her passion for acting rather than feeling pressured to perform.
Garner expressed her enjoyment in collaborating with people who share the same love for the craft. “I’m not tortured. It’s not filling a hole. I just really love to do it,” she revealed, revealing a sense of contentment in her professional pursuits. She fondly recalled the early days of working in summer stock theatre, which provided her with immense joy despite modest financial rewards.
As she continues her artistic journey while maintaining a close relationship with her children, Garner’s reflections on Paris and her connection with Ina Garten exemplify the importance of family, friendship, and pursuing one’s passions. Her experiences in the city of love—both past and present—have undoubtedly shaped her role as a mother and an artist, contributing to the happiness she now finds in her career.
