Magnus Ferrell, a 22-year-old rising star, has added his unique R&B flair to the festive classic “Happy Holiday / The Holiday Season” as part of Starbucks’ newly released EP titled Holiday Blend. This seven-track album marks the coffee giant’s return to producing a global holiday compilation after a decade-long hiatus, promising an upbeat soundtrack for customers in stores throughout the festive period.

Ferrell, known for his soulful artistry, expressed his excitement about covering the beloved medley originally popularised by Andy Williams in the 1960s. He recounted his desire to reinterpret the song while maintaining its cherished essence. “We aimed to introduce a groove that makes it feel fresh and invigorating, while still respecting the classic feel of the original,” he explained.

The young artist, the son of comedian Will Ferrell and actress Viveca Paulin, revealed that the festive season has always held a special place in his heart. He relishes the moments spent with his family, including his brothers Mattias, 19, and Axel, 16. “Family gatherings during the holidays bring new surprises each year, and I love going through my old piano book of holiday songs while decorating the tree,” Ferrell shared, reflecting on his cherished traditions.
Interestingly, despite his father’s iconic role in the festive classic Elf, Ferrell admitted that it’s not a regular viewing at home. As a child, he found a particular scene unsettling, prompting him to steer clear of the film. Instead, he finds joy in watching timeless favourites like A Christmas Story and Home Alone during the holiday season.
Ferrell’s career has been flourishing, particularly this year. His single “Asleep Talking” enjoyed significant success, and his recent EP Groove Therapy has further solidified his position in the music industry. This past September, he marked another milestone by receiving a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
In addition to his musical achievements, Ferrell has been touring with the Jonas Brothers on their Burning Up All Over Again Tour. He shared a heartwarming video of his father wearing a “MAGNUS” hat during the tour, a gesture that underscored the supportive role his dad plays in his life and career. “His presence throughout my journey as an artist has been invaluable,” Ferrell stated. “It’s quite special to have him with me on my first tour, especially alongside a group that has been a significant part of my upbringing.”
Ferrell’s rendition of the holiday classic is part of a diverse collection featuring other recognised artists, including Coco Jones, JYT, TRÍADA, Brandi Carlile, the Womack Sisters, and Leon Thomas. The Holiday Blend EP will serve as an integral part of the Starbucks in-store experience this season, creating a festive ambience for customers.
Expressing his gratitude for being part of such a significant project, Ferrell remarked on the excitement of collaborating with well-respected artists. “It’s incredible to be included in this Christmas album after a long absence from Starbucks. Sharing the stage with musicians I admire, like Coco Jones and Leon Thomas, is something special,” he noted, adding that his go-to drink at Starbucks is a flat white.
As the holiday season approaches, Ferrell’s contribution to the festive music landscape is sure to resonate with listeners, blending modern artistry with timeless traditions and bringing joy to customers across the country.
