The attack took place on Wednesday, 28 October, at Buzz Mill Coffee located on Town Creek Drive in the East Riverside area of Austin. Reports indicate that the incident unfolded after staff at the establishment requested that Grace dispose of an alcoholic beverage he had brought inside, in accordance with Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission regulations.

Buzz Mill Coffee owner Jason Sabala revealed that upon being confronted by staff, Grace chose to leave the main area of the shop and headed towards a back patio. It was there, according to Sabala, that he allegedly stabbed both a security guard and a staff member.
The Austin Police Department responded to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Officers arrived to find two individuals suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials later reported that one of the victims sustained injuries that were deemed life-threatening, though their condition has since stabilised.
Witnesses indicate that Grace was known to frequently wear costume makeup, a habit that has now drawn media attention. Sabala informed reporters that the accused often dressed in makeup for various occasions, including clown makeup, and on the night of the incident, he was reportedly wearing zombie-themed makeup.
After the alleged attack, police began searching for Grace and located him on a walking trail near the intersection of Rosewood and Chestnut Avenues, approximately three miles from the coffee shop. Following his apprehension, he was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Travis County Jail, where he now awaits further legal proceedings.
In the aftermath of the event, community members have expressed shock and disbelief. The combination of a violent act occurring in a local coffee shop, particularly during a light-hearted comedy show, has left many residents reeling.
Local authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. Individuals with knowledge pertaining to the case can contact the Austin Police Department’s Aggravated Assault unit at 512-974-5245.
The incident raises concerns regarding public safety and the need for heightened security measures in venues where an alcohol presence may lead to unruly behaviour. While the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing continues, many in the community are reflecting on the implications of such violence within spaces typically associated with leisure and entertainment.
As the situation develops, the affected individuals continue to receive medical care, and the coffee shop is working to support its staff and patrons during this distressing time. Further updates are expected from local authorities as they piece together the events leading to this shocking attack.
