In an enlightening interview, actress Chrissy Metz has revealed the positive impact that GLP-1 medication has had on her life, particularly regarding her mobility. The star of “This Is Us” took to the stage as Angélique in the Broadway production of “& Juliet” and expressed the newfound ease she has experienced while performing eight shows a week.
Metz, now 46, spoke to Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of Apple TV’s “Nocturne” on 20 October, where she highlighted the reduction in inflammation she has experienced since beginning the medication. “Honestly, being able to run around a stage eight shows a week was truly amazing,” she stated. “The inflammation was really minimised.” She explained that this was particularly beneficial as she navigates perimenopause.

The actress candidly discussed her knee issues, revealing that her physical challenges have been significantly alleviated by the medication. “I have knee issues and there are things going on,” Metz shared. Additionally, she noted how GLP-1 medication helped to ease the constant “food noise” that had been a concern for her.
GLP-1 medications were originally designed to assist individuals with type 2 diabetes in managing their blood sugar levels, as noted by the Mayo Clinic. Recent research has indicated that these drugs may also aid in weight loss, a detail that resonates with Metz given her familial health history.

Metz, who has been prioritising her health since experiencing a panic attack on her 30th birthday, mentioned in previous interviews that she felt compelled to consider this treatment due to her family’s history of obesity. “I’m not getting any younger,” she reflected on her decision to use GLP-1, highlighting her struggle to find effective solutions for her health and wellness. “I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me,” she admitted.
In addition to medication, Metz has embraced a holistic approach to her wellbeing, which includes physical exercise and mental health practices. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, she shared her affinity for weight training, stating, “I feel strong.”
Moreover, she emphasised the importance of journaling and meditating as grounding techniques that help her navigate her daily life. “Even if it’s for five minutes, it really grounds me and sets the day up for me,” she explained. Singing also serves as a therapeutic outlet for her, providing enjoyment without self-judgement. “For real, health is mind, body, soul, spirit,” she concluded, underscoring the integral connection between physical and mental health.
As Metz continues to share her journey, she highlights the importance of self-care and the strides she has made in addressing both her physical and emotional health. With the upcoming release of “Nocturne,” which features talent like Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz, Metz looks forward to showcasing her abilities on screen while also promoting her commitment to her health. The film premieres on Apple TV on 30 October, adding to Metz’s growing repertoire as an actress.
Through her experience, Metz shines a light on the empowering choices individuals can make in their health journeys, encouraging others to seek their own paths to wellness and self-acceptance amidst life’s challenges.
