Sophia Bush has candidly shared insights into her enduring friendships with her former colleagues from the hit television series One Tree Hill. The actress recently discussed her relationships with costars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz in an interview with PEOPLE, highlighting the strength of their connection both during and after their time on the show.
The trio hosted the popular podcast Drama Queens from 2021 to 2024, and Bush emphasised the significance of their long-standing bonds, which, according to her, have lasted longer than their lifetimes apart. “They’re some of the longest relationships of my life,” the 44-year-old Bush said. She underscored their commitment to one another, stating that despite the ups and downs they may face, they always support each other.

In her newly released memoir, *And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress*, Bush revisits her relationships with Burton and Lenz, reflecting on their shared experiences from the One Tree Hill set. The actress expressed gratitude for the deep connections formed, outlining the importance of steadfastness during both joyful and challenging times.

Bush mentioned that this appreciation extends beyond her immediate circle to the entire cast of One Tree Hill, describing the friendships as a “real-life gift” that encompasses love and support. She recalled how their interactions have evolved, with moments of friction giving way to stronger connections over time. The actress fondly reflects on the growth she has seen in their relationships, indicating that the trio has supported each other’s various projects and celebrated milestones together.
Recounting the past, Bush revealed a time when she experienced tension with Lenz due to their differing worldviews and Lenz’s involvement in a Christian group, which Lenz has since referred to as a “cult.” Despite these challenges, Bush expressed that their bond allowed for reconciliations and moments of connection, such as shared dinners and beach walks. In her memoir, she noted, “We’d come together, and then we’d take breaks,” highlighting how they navigated their complexities with grace and understanding.
Reflecting on their podcasting journey, Bush emphasised how she and Lenz had grown closer again in recent years. Their friendship has transformed, leading them to support each other publicly, with recent appearances together, including at the One Tree Hill Anniversary Convention & Basketball Game in North Carolina.
Lenz, who appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast in October 2024, also opened up about her relationship with Bush, acknowledging that her religious beliefs had previously impacted their friendship. Lenz shared a desire to reconnect and expressed regret for how her actions impacted their relationship, stating, “I really f—ing wish I could turn back time.”
Bush’s relationship with Burton has similarly been through ups and downs. Lenz mentioned that despite having had a falling out with Burton, she has maintained a love for her, hoping that any misunderstandings between them can one day be resolved.
Burton left the Drama Queens podcast in July 2024, while Bush and Lenz continued as co-hosts alongside Robert Buckley, marking yet another chapter in their collaborative efforts.
Sophia Bush’s memoir, which became available on October 29, explores these themes of friendship, support, and the trials of navigating personal beliefs within close relationships. As her narrative unfolds, it provides insight into the real-life experiences of the women who formed such a beloved on-screen family.
With their history spanning over a decade and more, Bush, Burton, and Lenz’s friendship serves as a testament to the enduring nature of connection, particularly in the challenging landscape of fame and personal growth. Their stories continue to resonate with fans, reminding us all of the value of genuine friendship.
