Paul Anthony Kelly, known for his role in the hit series *Love Story*, is embracing his newfound status as PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, recently showcased in the magazine’s 2026 issue. Kelly’s modesty was apparent as he discussed his feature, which is seen as a significant milestone in his career. “It’s quite the first. I never thought that I would be Sexiest Man Alive, the centrefold, but I’ll take the honour, it’s great,” he shared with the *GMA* hosts. Robin Roberts, one of the show’s presenters, assured him of the merit of this recognition, stating, “But you’re well-deserving. And people really appreciate you with the success of *Love Story* and all that’s going on.” Kelly humbly acknowledged the support, responding, “Thank you”.

This year has certainly been a transformative one for Kelly, who stars in *Love Story*, a dramatization of the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette that captivated audiences with its blend of romance and tragedy. The series, which explores the couple’s first encounter in 1992 and the heartbreaking events leading up to their deaths in 1999, has received glowing reviews and garnered six Emmy nominations, of which it won one. Following *Love Story*, Kelly transitioned to another of Ryan Murphy’s productions, *American Horror Story: 13*, where he portrays a sinister, younger incarnation of the character Mr. Nas.
In light of his rising fame, Roberts inquired whether the actor has noticed an increase in public recognition. “It’s happening a little bit more now,” Kelly replied with a hint of pride. “I mean, I’ll take it. It’s nice to be recognised, and the response has been so overwhelmingly positive.”
Reflecting on his journey, Kelly recalled a period of uncertainty just before he secured his role in *Love Story*. He and his wife, Syd Widziszewski-Kelly, had moved to Portland, Oregon, after wildfires ravaged their neighborhood in Los Angeles in January 2025. At the time, Kelly was contemplating a career change, feeling that success in acting may not be in the cards for him. “I’d done a couple of auditions, and nothing really came out of them. We were thinking about the future and contemplating having a family,” he said.
Kelly described a moment of vulnerability, sitting with his wife and questioning his career path. “I remember sitting on the couch and talking to her and I was like, ‘I don’t think this is going to happen. It’s been this long. I don’t know if this is for me,’” he recounted.
In a remarkable turn of events, merely two weeks later, he received a callback for *Love Story*. This period proved to be life-changing for Kelly, coinciding with several significant milestones: he celebrated his second wedding anniversary, learned that he would soon become a father, and obtained his green card to work in the United States. “My whole life changed then,” he reflected. “Still, to this day, I’m flabbergasted that it actually happened, and I’m living my dream.”
Kelly’s story highlights not only his achievements in the entertainment industry but also the unpredictable nature of artistic careers. From moments of doubt to achieving the prestigious recognition of being named Sexiest Man Alive, his journey reflects resilience and determination.
As the finale of *American Horror Story: 13* approaches, set to air on 29 October, fans are eager to see more from this rising star. With his newfound recognition and recent successes under his belt, it seems Kelly’s career is only just beginning. As he embraces this chapter, the actor remains grateful for the opportunities that have come his way and reflects on the importance of perseverance in the face of uncertainty.
