Following their picturesque wedding in Malibu, Jordyn Woods and Karl-Anthony Towns embarked on an enchanting safari honeymoon in Africa in late August. This trip not only served as a celebration of their union but also as a poignant reminder of the loved ones they have lost.

The couple’s bond deepened through a shared experience of grief, having both lost their parents at tender ages. Jordyn Woods faced the devastating loss of her father, John, who passed away from cancer in 2017 when she was just 19 years old. Similarly, Karl-Anthony Towns mourned his mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, who died in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
In a recent interview, Woods articulated the sense of connection she felt with their late parents during their honeymoon adventure. Despite sharing that they did not experience “too many signs” from their parents during the ceremony itself, she felt a profound presence while exploring the stunning landscapes of Nairobi, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.
Reflecting on the safari, Woods revealed how fortunate they felt to encounter an array of wildlife. “We had so many amazing moments that even our tour guide was like, ‘You guys are really lucky, I don’t know how you’re seeing this,’” she recounted in an episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. “I would go to sleep and the next day say, ‘Okay, I didn’t see elephants, I want to see elephants.’ We pull up to the watering hole, and there are 50 elephants there.”
Her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, praised Woods for her ability to manifest such experiences, which were complemented by a serene atmosphere that seemed to attract the wild animals. However, Woods attributed their extraordinary encounters to something more personal. “Also, it could be our parents. You’re always looking for that sign, where do I see them? Where do I feel them? But when we were there, their energy was definitely felt,” she expressed.
Woods eagerly documented their remarkable journey on social media, treating her followers to breathtaking videos and photographs from various destinations. In one heartfelt caption, she wrote, “A dream I didn’t know how to put into words, lived out in the wild with the love of my life. Africa, you were beyond anything I could have imagined. Our honeymoon felt like walking through a dream I never wanted to wake up from.”
In addition to their honeymoon experiences, Woods spoke about the thoughtful ways they incorporated memories of their parents into their wedding ceremony. Keeping their vows intimate, Woods explained how they made subtle gestures to honour their late loved ones. “With our ceremony, we kept it very short and sweet… We had a chair to honour both of them with just flowers,” she shared, aiming for a list of tributes that felt genuine yet not overwhelming.
To further commemorate their beloved parents, the couple included small keepsakes—a locket and a handkerchief—adding a personal touch to the ceremony. “There were a lot of little things, but nothing huge and in your face,” Woods noted, highlighting the delicate balance between remembrance and celebration at their wedding.
As the couple embarks on this new chapter, their experience in Africa resonates with themes of love, loss, and connection. Through their journey, Woods and Towns not only celebrated their marriage but also found solace in the memories of their parents, reminding us that love transcends even the deepest of losses. Their safari honeymoon was not just a holiday; it was a testament to their resilience and a heartfelt homage to the lives that shaped them.
