Sophia Bush, the actress known for her role in ‘One Tree Hill’, and Ashlyn Harris, a former professional soccer player, have revealed that they exchanged vows during a private ceremony last summer in New York. The couple’s union has remained largely under the radar until now, following Bush’s recent comments on the popular podcast ‘Call Her Daddy’.

In her candid discussion that aired on 21 October, Bush disclosed that she was the one to propose to Harris, a detail that had been kept quiet until now. “I did it,” Bush shared, explaining that the traditional role of being asked had been reversed in their relationship. Although she chose to keep the specifics of the proposal private, she expressed joy in knowing it was “so sweet”.
The couple tied the knot in an intimate setting in upstate New York, attended by friends and Harris’ two children, Sloane and Ocean. In an interview with Vogue, Bush reflected on her decision to maintain secrecy around the wedding, describing the day as “the best, most perfect day”. She mentioned the desire for privacy stemming from their experiences with public life, stating, “When you kind of recover from what the public commodifying you does to you, you don’t want it to happen again.”

Bush, 44, and Harris, 41, both came out of previous marriages before embarking on their relationship. Bush was married to businessman Grant Hughes from June 2022 until their separation in August 2023, while Harris divorced fellow athlete Ali Krieger the same month. The two began dating shortly after their respective relationship breakdowns, finding solace and support in one another during a challenging time.

The actress described her relationship with Harris as invigorating, stating that they have a deep connection where they often complete each other’s sentences. “Now I’m with someone who finishes my sentences and vice versa, who makes me laugh in moments that laughter feels impossible,” Bush elaborated, revealing how her bond with Harris has transformed her life.
In stark contrast to her previous wedding experiences, Bush felt no need for a grand celebration. “I didn’t need to design a dress, and I didn’t need to plan a thing,” she stated, suggesting that the simplicity of their ceremony added to its charm. Their wedding involved a close friend and her child, a backyard setting, and some prepared food, creating an environment of love and jubilance. “We sobbed, and we laughed. And it was exactly right,” Bush reminisced about the day, expressing her gratitude for the experience.
Bush, who publicly confirmed her relationship with Harris during an interview with Glamour in April 2024, acknowledged the way their romance became public without her approval. Reflecting on her journey, she recognised the importance of personal growth and the joy of sharing her life with someone who makes her feel free. “The bonus of this whole journey is that I spend every day around a person that being close to is like getting shone on by the sun,” she proclaimed.
The couple’s connection has deep roots, having initially met in 2019 after connecting on Instagram in 2015. Following their respective divorces in 2023, both women leaned on each other for support, eventually leading to a romantic relationship. Bush described a memorable dinner they shared, marking a pivotal moment in their connection. “It felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me,” she reflected on that evening.
In addition to her marital revelations, Bush publicly came out as queer in her essay for Glamour, describing the relief she felt in embracing her identity. “I finally feel like I can breathe,” she wrote, articulating the transformative journey of self-acceptance.
With a blend of personal and professional experiences informing her narrative, Bush’s story serves as an inspiration as she embraces her new chapter with Harris, amid a backdrop of profound change and self-discovery.
