Charlie Cox, the acclaimed actor known for his portrayal of the superhero Daredevil, recently shared his emotional response to the news that the Marvel series “Daredevil: Born Again” will conclude after its third season in 2027. During an interview at the New York Comic Con on 8th October, he revealed that while he has been preparing himself for the end of this pivotal role, the impact it has had on his six-year-old son has caught him off guard.

Cox, who has embraced the role of the vigilante Matt Murdock since 2015, expressed surprise at his son’s reaction. “I’m trying to prepare my son for it more than I’m preparing myself,” said Cox, noting that his child is “devastated” by the news. The actor admitted it was unexpected to witness such a strong emotional response from his son, who is just beginning to grasp the concept that his father plays a superhero.

Reflecting on his journey with the character, Cox spoke about the deep connection he has formed with Daredevil over the course of 12 years. “It’s been 12 years of my life, and I think it’s very likely that at the end of my career this character will be the most important to me,” he remarked. He acknowledged that while saying goodbye would be challenging, he could not have anticipated the personal ramifications, particularly for his family.
Cox first donned the iconic red suit in the original “Daredevil” series, which ran from 2015 to 2018. As he continues in this beloved role, he has found joy in the stories told through the series. “I think I’ve played Daredevil for about 70 hours, which is quite remarkable,” he said, emphasising the gift that this opportunity has been throughout his career.
In addition to his role as an actor, Cox also served as an executive producer on the series, which has provided him with additional insights into creating a conducive work environment. He shared the importance of fostering positivity on set, appreciating the various individuals involved in the production. “I’ve learned how essential it is to create a happy set,” he said, highlighting the fun and joy that can arise from making television collaboratively.
Cox’s personal life has also immensely changed during his time on “Daredevil.” He first met his wife, Samantha Thomas, while working on the original series. They now share two children together, giving him fresh perspectives influenced by his family life. “My life is unrecognisable in those 12 years,” he noted, reflecting on how parenthood has shaped his understanding of responsibility and dedication.
As the series approaches its final season, Cox teased the dramatic developments that await Daredevil, particularly following the character’s exposure as Matt Murdock and his subsequent arrest in the season two finale. He posed intriguing questions about how months of incarceration may affect Daredevil’s psyche, particularly as he grapples with feelings of being vilified after striving to help others.
In earlier statements, Cox discussed his journey as a parent, noting that overcoming challenges in fatherhood is a significant achievement. “Being able to be a good version of yourself, despite feeling overwhelmed, can feel like a victory,” he shared, echoing the sentiments many parents feel.
The third season of “Daredevil: Born Again” promises to feature familiar faces, including Vincent D’Onofrio and Deborah Ann Woll. Notably, fans can expect special appearances from Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, returning as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, alongside Finn Jones reprising his role as Iron Fist.
As the first two seasons of “Daredevil: Born Again” can now be streamed on Disney+, excitement continues to build for the final chapter of this superhero saga. For Charlie Cox, the culmination of his journey as Daredevil signifies not just the end of a role, but a heartfelt farewell to a character that has profoundly influenced both his professional and personal life.
