According to Joshua Nelson, Kariem’s brother-in-law, Navi recounted that Hassan became unresponsive during the ride shortly before he was ejected from the roller coaster. Initially, there was some confusion regarding who was with Kariem on the ride, as some witnesses stated he was alongside his son. However, Nelson clarified that it was indeed Navi who was next to him at the time. She expressed distress over the incident, reportedly stating, “He passed out,” and claimed that his safety restraint either snapped or came loose moments before he fell.

After the incident, Navi was in tears, and Nelson described his disbelief when he first heard her version of events. He stated, “That’s just kind of what I’ve been holding on to, hoping that that’s the last thing he remembers,” reflecting on the joy Hassan felt in sharing the celebratory outing with family. He explained that prior to boarding the Goliath, Hassan had expressed excitement about the thrill the ride offered.
