Liu, well-known for his role in the Marvel franchise, shared his heartfelt reflections on their wedding day in an interview published by Vogue on October 13. Emphasising the overwhelming beauty of their surroundings and the gathering of loved ones, Liu recalled the moment he first saw Hsu walking down the aisle, feeling a rush of emotion at the sight of his life partner.

Hsu paid tribute to her Taiwanese heritage by opting for a stunning gown designed by Nicole + Felicia, the brand founded by the Taiwanese sisters Nicole and Felicia Chang. Liu complemented her look with an ensemble crafted by Garrison Bespoke, an Asian-Canadian label, paired with a favoured Versace jacket.
The couple’s special day was marked by a touch of serendipity, as rain intermittently fell right before the ceremony. However, as the festivities began, the clouds parted. Liu described this moment as profoundly significant, suggesting that it symbolised the presence of his late grandparents, who had passed away from COVID-19 in 2021.
Reflecting on their absence, Liu shared his sentiments about his grandparents, Yeye and Nainai, who played a prominent role in his upbringing in China until he moved to Canada at the age of four. “It was as if someone was sending reassurance that they were watching,” he remarked, explaining how he had initially not included them in his vows. However, the timing of the rain and its cessation felt to him like a divine sign, leading him to mention his grandparents during his heartfelt speech to Hsu.
Their wedding day also featured a touching reading by Woody Harrelson, known as “Blessing of the Hands,” which further highlighted the day’s sentimental atmosphere. The couple’s journey to this moment began in a rather unassuming fashion, meeting at a friend’s Fourth of July barbecue in 2022, which Liu playfully describes as a memorable encounter that felt like fate.
The couple’s first dance as newlyweds held its own special significance, featuring a live rendition of Etta James’s classic “At Last,” performed by their friend, Reneé Rapp. The sentiment expressed throughout the day illustrated their sense of gratitude for the gathering, as well as appreciation for the collective effort that went into making their destination wedding a success.
“The time, energy, and coordination that everyone involved contributed were immensely touching,” Hsu commented, reflecting on the abundance of cherished memories created during the weekend’s festivities. Her sentiments echo the couple’s overall appreciation for the love and support from their families and friends.
As Liu and Hsu embark on this new chapter in their lives, the couple embraces the closeness and joy they felt during their wedding, hopeful for what their future together holds. Their story, from a chance meeting to a fairytale wedding, encapsulates a journey marked by love, heritage, and a profound sense of connection.
