Selma Blair, the actress best known for her role in “Legally Blonde,” has recently been involved in a serious incident that resulted in her arrest during a Delta Airlines flight on 11 October. The 54-year-old star faced two counts of assault after allegedly attacking flight crew members, as well as later allegedly assaulting a nurse and a police officer when authorities arrived.

Before the flight, Blair posted a montage on Instagram, sharing her travels across various cities including Los Angeles and New York. Despite previous positive remarks from fans about her wellbeing, Blair herself commented that she wasn’t feeling “great,” expressing feelings of sadness and gratitude instead.

The altercation reportedly began while the flight was en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. During this time, it is alleged that Blair punched a flight attendant and bit another crew member. Notably, a representative for the actress stated that she had experienced a medical emergency, which contributed to her behaviour.
Following the incident, the pilot of the flight made an emergency 911 call, requesting that police and medical personnel be present upon landing to attend to injuries sustained by the crew. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey later confirmed that Blair had exhibited “physically abusive” behaviour during the flight and was subsequently taken into custody, with one flight attendant also requiring hospitalisation due to injuries.
As a result of her actions, Blair was arraigned on two counts of assault after kicking both a police officer and a nurse. According to a criminal court affidavit, the nature of the assaults was both aggressive and concerning. Reports suggest that she is facing charges in both state and federal court, with her federal case expected to be heard in a special court in Brooklyn, alongside the assault charges in Queens.
During her arraignment on 12 October, Judge Indira Kahn set bail at £20,000 in cash, or £60,000 in either bond or partially secured bond. Blair was subsequently released on bail that same evening.
At the time of the altercation, Blair was travelling with her service dog, Scout. The actress had previously made public her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2018, which she has openly discussed, often highlighting the challenges she faces living with the condition.
Despite the unfortunate incident, it remains to be seen how this legal situation will unfold for Blair. As of now, her representative has indicated that she is receiving medical attention and is currently in stable condition. The repercussions of her actions, both legally and personally, will likely continue to draw public interest in the days to come.
The incident has sparked discussions around mental health, especially in light of Blair’s openness regarding her struggles with MS. Many have expressed their concern for the actress and the circumstances that may have contributed to her behaviour on the flight.
