Kat, a 50-year-old med spa owner from Arizona, recently shared her experience with a facelift, revealing how the procedure has rejuvenated her appearance without making her look drastically different. This subtle approach reaffirms her commitment to age gracefully while also adjusting to the changes that come with perimenopause.

In her early 40s, Kat began to notice significant shifts in her skin and overall appearance, which she initially attributed to postpartum hormonal changes after having a child at the age of 40. “I felt I was just getting back to my body, and that’s normal,” she recounted. However, as time went on, she realised that the fatigue, persistent belly fat, and tingling sensations in her feet might indicate deeper health changes related to perimenopause, a transitional phase that can affect women in their 30s to 50s.

Understanding her body’s changes meant taking a closer look at her skin—particularly given her career in a med spa, where she had always been proactive about skin care. Despite maintaining a diligent regimen involving SPF and laser treatments, Kat noticed that the laxity of her skin had noticeably evolved. This prompted her to consider a facelift, although she wrestled with the idea that she might be too young for such a procedure.
To navigate her uncertainty, Kat sought the advice of Dr. Anthony Admire, a board-certified plastic surgeon renowned for his expertise in facial rejuvenation. Having developed a professional relationship with him through her work, she felt confident in his abilities. “He’s incredibly skilled at what he does,” Kat remarked.
In May, Kat took the plunge and underwent an extended deep plane facelift alongside a structural deep neck lift. The results have left her delighted—and, importantly, her transformation remained understated. “With a facelift, the aim is to restore existing features rather than dramatically alter them,” explained Dr. Admire. “Kat, being 50, doesn’t require extensive changes. Her tissues need only a little nudge back to where they once were.”
Indeed, the two felt that the subtlety of the results would contribute to Kat’s long-term satisfaction. “The best compliment I received was from my 10-year-old,” she shared. “He said, ‘Mom, I don’t even know why you did that. You look exactly the same.’” This response delighted Kat, as it suggested that her son viewed her refreshed appearance as that of his mother, rather than somebody changed by surgery.
Dr. Admire emphasised that achieving a natural look is a primary goal for many of his patients. “We want them to look refreshed rather than as if they’ve had surgery,” he stated. Their hope, and what Kat desires, is to maintain a youthful appearance as she ages. Dr. Admire explained, “By opting for surgery at a younger age, we’re effectively freezing time for her.”
Ongoing skincare remains essential after cosmetic procedures like Kat’s, as the deeper work accomplished through surgery influences but doesn’t completely halt the aging process. Dr. Admire advised that as long as she continues to care for her skin and protects it from sun exposure, Kat can maintain her youthful look for years to come.
Kat reflected on her journey, admitting that many women may shy away from discussing their experiences with cosmetic enhancements openly. “I really appreciate that the result has been so natural,” she explained. “I think it’s important to represent the conversations around ageing and how we can take control of our appearances without fear of judgement.”
As she navigates her 50s, Kat remains a firm believer in the importance of self-care, whether through a healthy lifestyle or a bit of cosmetic help. She hopes her story will inspire others to consider their options for maintaining well-being and self-esteem through the natural changes of life.
