Selma Blair, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in films such as “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde,” has recently found herself embroiled in legal trouble. According to a criminal court affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the 54-year-old star has been charged with two counts of assault, stemming from an incident involving a police officer and a nurse.

The alleged events took place shortly after Blair’s flight from Los Angeles to New York landed at John F. Kennedy Airport on the evening of 11 October 2025. Reports indicate that during the flight, Blair exhibited unruly behaviour, which prompted the airline’s crew to seek assistance from law enforcement upon arrival.

Law enforcement officials revealed that Blair is accused of kicking Port Authority Police Officer Maria Suarez repeatedly in the face, neck, and chest. The sworn affidavit, filed by Officer Dynosoph Telisma, describes the injuries sustained by Suarez, which reportedly included swelling of her jaw and considerable pain across her upper body.
The disturbance escalated after Blair was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Here, the actress allegedly kicked a registered nurse in the chest while being attended to, leading to substantial discomfort for the medical professional involved. In light of the nurse’s injuries, an order of protection has been granted.
Upon her arrival at the airport, Blair was promptly taken into custody due to the violent acts carried out during the flight. In addition to state-level charges, sources have indicated that she is facing federal charges in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred in the “special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.”
Bail was set at £20,000 cash or £60,000 bond during her arraignment on 12 October, presided over by Judge Indira Kahn. Blair secured her release later that evening.
The allegations have drawn notable media attention, with reports stating that the pilot of the Delta flight had requested police and medical personnel to be at the gate, prior to the plane’s arrival. The communication indicated that both a passenger and a flight attendant had sustained minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bites. The pilot also noted concerns regarding Blair after she reportedly injured her head during the incident.
Following the allegations, a representative for Blair stated that she experienced a medical emergency that contributed to her behaviour aboard the flight. The actress received immediate medical attention upon landing and is said to be in stable condition.
This is not the first time Blair has faced legal scrutiny regarding her behaviour on a flight. In 2016, she was arrested following an incident attributed to mixing alcohol with medication, which she later described as a “big mistake.” Since then, she has been open about her struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition she publicly disclosed in 2018.
As the case unfolds, it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Blair, who has been open about her health battles while continuing her career in the entertainment industry. The legal proceedings are expected to draw further public interest, particularly given Blair’s vibrant career and past personal challenges.
The actress is set to appear in both New York state and federal courts, with her next hearing scheduled to address the serious charges laid against her. As further developments arise, the entertainment community and fans alike will be keeping a close eye on the proceedings and Blair’s journey moving forward.
