Nicky Sauseda, a 21-year-old from Chicago, has cultivated a deep love for Randall, the iconic character from Pixar’s *Monsters, Inc.*, since her early childhood. The characters and their stories have provided Sauseda comfort and joy, especially as she navigates life with autism.

“I have adored reptiles since I was a toddler, and Randall was a source of comfort for me as a child and continues to be as an adult,” Sauseda explained in an interview. Remarkably, she still possesses her very first Randall figure, a cherished item from her youth.

*Monsters, Inc.*, released in 2001, tells the story of two monsters, Mike and Sulley—voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman—who accidentally let a little girl into their world while working at a company designed to scare children. While the film’s main antagonist is the cunning Randall, brought to life by Steve Buscemi, Sauseda has cultivated a fanbase that affectionately regards her as “Randall’s biggest fan.”
As her admiration for the character grew, so did Sauseda’s collection of Randall-related memorabilia. Starting in her high school years, she now proudly owns over 400 items, including posters, toys, stuffed animals, and other themed merchandise. “Collecting these items has had a significant positive impact on my mental health. Steve Buscemi and Randall represent my special interests,” she noted.
Sauseda has also gained recognition online, where friends and followers refer to her as “the Randall girl.” She expressed gratitude for the titles and the community that has formed around her interests. “It’s an honour to be known in such a way,” she said.
Recently, Sauseda experienced a milestone that many fans only dream of: meeting Steve Buscemi himself. After learning that the actor was hosting a private event in New York, her friends and followers came together to support her dream. “I never thought I would be able to attend, being so far away in Chicago,” she recounted. “Thanks to the generosity of my friends and followers, I was flown out to New York, and it was incredibly emotional.”
During the event, Sauseda had the opportunity to meet Buscemi and showcase her extensive collection of Randall-related items. “I never imagined I would meet Steve Buscemi, show him my collection, and express how he and Randall have been my special interests. He loved it!” she beamed. “He even called me Randall’s biggest fan, which was surreal.”
In what Sauseda described as “the most magical and best experience of my life,” she shared details of her passion and dedication to Buscemi. “He was wonderfully kind and genuinely surprised by the amount of Randall merchandise. He approved of my collection, and it was incredibly validating for me,” she remarked.
In addition to discussing her collection, Sauseda informed Buscemi about her interest in mental health initiatives, particularly those that support first responders. She is actively involved with Friends of Firefighters, an organisation for which Buscemi serves on the advisory council. “It was a meaningful conversation, and it was perfect in every way,” she said.
After the event, Sauseda framed a photo of her and Buscemi, keeping it proudly displayed alongside her collection. “I will always support Steve in everything he does. Meeting him felt like a dream come true,” she expressed.
Currently, Sauseda is still riding high from the experience. She shared a video of her meeting with Buscemi on her TikTok account, which quickly garnered over 100,000 views. She hopes to inspire others to pursue their interests unashamedly. “Do what you love. As long as you’re happy, that’s what matters! Don’t let anyone ruin that for you,” she urged her viewers.
As Nicky Sauseda continues to celebrate her fandom and newfound friendship with Steve Buscemi, her story resonates as a reminder of the joy that comes from embracing one’s interests, no matter where they may lead.
