As the world marks World Mental Health Day on Saturday, 10th October, singer-songwriter Jewel has announced the launch of her fifth annual #NotAloneChallenge. This initiative aims to provide individuals with essential mental health resources and tools while fostering the message that no one has to face their struggles in isolation.
The #NotAloneChallenge invites participants to share the people, activities, books, or even comforting items that have positively impacted their mental health. By participating in the challenge and using the hashtag #NotAloneChallenge, individuals can not only celebrate their support systems but also help spread awareness about the importance of mental wellbeing. Jewel emphasised the power of community support in her interview with PEOPLE, stating, “I think if we can really push hard on mental health, it’ll solve a lot of other problems.”

Over the course of five years, the #NotAloneChallenge has successfully raised over $3 million for Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation, which focuses on making mental health support accessible and practical. Jewel’s personal experiences with homelessness and anxiety fuel her passion for this cause. She hopes individuals will recognise that they have allies in their journey and encourages people to reach out for help, whether through community resources or different therapeutic modalities.
In her quest to promote mental health awareness, Jewel has shared her journey of overcoming adversity. Reflecting on her life experiences, she remarked, “When I moved out at 15, I wanted to see if happiness was a learnable skill.” Jewel’s pursuit of personal happiness led her to develop various strategies that she believes can help others. “Our whole journey has been, ‘How do we make tools that are accessible and free that make a difference for people?’” she explained.
Jewel expressed the profound satisfaction she derives from witnessing the impact of mental health resources on young individuals’ lives. “It’s very rewarding to see kids take that on and see it work for them. They take responsibility for their happiness,” she asserted. Her determination to equip young people with the tools to navigate their emotions and develop resilience has become an integral part of her advocacy work.

In addition to the #NotAloneChallenge, Jewel is set to host the second annual Not Alone Awards in Las Vegas on 2nd November. This event aims to celebrate innovative approaches to mental and emotional wellbeing and will be hosted by Loni Love. Fans will have the opportunity to attend in person or stream the ceremony live via iHeart.
Following the awards ceremony, the Not Alone Summit is scheduled to take place from 3rd to 4th November in Las Vegas. Jewel will co-chair the summit along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and ICF alum Cherrial Odell, while Jason Kennedy will serve as the event host.
Jewel’s ongoing commitment to mental health advocacy comes at a time when the conversation around emotional wellbeing is more critical than ever. The #NotAloneChallenge provides a platform for awareness and solidarity, and Jewel’s passionate approach encourages individuals to take their mental health into their own hands.
For those grappling with mental health challenges or seeking support, resources are available. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by calling or texting 988 or visiting 988lifeline.org, offering 24/7 assistance to those in need.
Through the #NotAloneChallenge and her broader advocacy efforts, Jewel is working diligently to ensure that individuals know they are never alone in their struggles and have access to the support that they deserve.
