In an exciting tribute to tennis champion Serena Williams, Mattel has announced the release of a Barbie Signature doll inspired by her historic victory at the 2005 Australian Open. The doll captures the essence of Williams as she celebrates her remarkable career, highlighting her influence on young girls around the world.

The new Barbie features an ensemble reminiscent of the outfit Williams wore during her triumphant return to the Grand Slam stage, marking her seventh singles title. The doll showcases a stylish green and white cutout top with mesh details, complemented by a white skirt. Completing the look, she holds a tennis ball and racket, embodying the spirit of the sport and Williams’ incredible achievements.

In a statement, Williams expressed her hope that young girls who play with the doll would see endless possibilities for themselves. “I want every girl who plays with this doll to see possibility—not just in me, but in herself,” she said, emphasising the importance of representation and empowerment for future generations.
This release follows the unveiling of a one-of-a-kind Role Model doll in March 2026 that highlighted eight pioneering women, including Williams, as part of Barbie’s global “Dream Team.” This initiative aimed to celebrate extraordinary female figures who have achieved significant milestones in their respective fields.
Williams’ advocacy extends beyond the release of her doll, as part of the celebration, the Barbie Dream Gap Project will be donating to Mrs. Rina’s House of Blessings. This charity focuses on providing educational and inspirational resources to children from underprivileged backgrounds in Martin County, Florida. The funding will aid in developing programs aimed at nurturing compassionate leadership among children, further aligning with Williams’ commitment to fostering community development.
Reflecting on her own upbringing, Williams shared her belief that representation matters. “Growing up, I didn’t see many girls who looked like me being told there was no limit to who they could become,” she noted. Her desire is for each girl who has the doll to feel emboldened to “dream big, work hard, change direction, break barriers, and become anything she chooses.”
The launch also positions Williams as a member of Team Barbie, an initiative celebrating female role models who inspire confidence and resilience in young girls. Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie at Mattel, remarked on the significance of the doll, especially during the celebration of International Day of the Girl. “Barbie has always inspired girls to believe they can be anything, from the sports stadium to the fashion runway to the boardroom. Serena Williams embodies that message through her extraordinary achievements as an athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate for equality,” he stated.
The announcement of the doll coincided with a larger mission to honour women making history. Baynard elaborated, “By honouring her with a Barbie Signature doll, we’re celebrating a barrier-breaking icon whose legacy empowers fans everywhere to dream big and embrace their own potential.”
Shoppers will be able to purchase the Serena Williams Barbie doll starting 8 October for $45. It will be available at Target stores, major retailers, and through Mattel Creations. This collaboration not only highlights Williams’ illustrious career but also hopes to encourage girls everywhere to strive for their own dreams, breaking down barriers in the process.
As a figure who transcends sports, Williams remains a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us that with determination and grit, anyone can achieve greatness.
