Halle Berry’s daughter, Nahla Aubry, has come forward to defend her mother following serious allegations of child abuse made by Berry’s ex-husband, Olivier Martinez. In court documents recently acquired by PEOPLE, Nahla, who is 18 years old, asserts that she has never witnessed any form of physical abuse by her mother towards her younger brother, Maceo, who is 13.

The accusations against Berry emerged on October 1, when Martinez filed for sole custody of Maceo. He alleged that Berry had “physically abused” their son during an incident on September 26, as well as claiming there had been other abusive instances in previous years. Berry has refuted these claims, stating that she herself has been a victim of domestic violence.
In her declaration submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court on October 3, Nahla described Berry as a nurturing and committed parent. She noted, “I never observed anything abusive about her parenting,” emphasising her mother’s dedication to their family. Nahla, who shares her mother with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, reflected on her childhood experiences, highlighting Berry’s involvement in her and Maceo’s lives.

Nahla painted a picture of a loving home, stating that her mother is “warm, supportive, and deeply involved.” She counters the allegations by insisting that she has never seen Berry engage in violent conduct towards Maceo, declaring, “I have never seen my mom hit, slap, choke, grab, or physically abuse Maceo in any way.” Her statement attempts to dispel the notion that Berry has acted violently or irresponsibly as a parent.
The court documents reveal that Nahla has lived with Maceo for the majority of his life and has observed her mother’s efforts to maintain a balanced family dynamic post-separation from Martinez. She noted that Berry has been proactive in coordinating the kids’ schedules to ensure they spend quality time together. In her statement, Nahla referred to her mother’s commitment to attending Maceo’s sports games and ensuring he received proper educational support.
Nahla further expressed her unwavering faith in her mother’s love, stating, “I never doubted my mom’s love for me.” She maintained that Berry has always encouraged her children to foster positive relationships with their fathers, which underlines her attempt to instil a sense of unity in their family.
In a striking turn, Nahla alleged that she had witnessed a violent encounter in their driveway between Martinez and her father, which could suggest underlying tensions affecting family dynamics. “In all my years living with my mom, I have never witnessed her act violently toward anyone,” she explained, while also recalling the incident involving her father.
Addressing the playful dynamics between her mother and Maceo, Nahla mentioned that they often engage in light-hearted activities, describing times when they would “wrestle, tickle each other, and roll around laughing.” She asserted that she had never seen Maceo upset or hurt during these interactions, a sentiment intended to counter the allegations made against Berry.
Reflecting on her reaction to Martinez’s claims, Nahla confessed to feeling “shocked, very sad, and very upset,” expressing disappointment towards her ex-stepfather. Nahla voiced concern for Maceo, revealing that she had been unable to communicate with him since Martinez’s custody filing, noting her worries about the emotional toll the situation could be having on him.
As the legal proceedings continue, Halle Berry’s visitation rights with Maceo have been restricted, allowing her only daytime visits on specific days. Meanwhile, Martinez maintains that his actions stem from a genuine concern for their son’s welfare, stating, “My paramount concern is and always has been the health, welfare, and safety of our son, Maceo.”
Currently, Berry’s legal representation has not issued any comments regarding the ongoing situation. The allegations have undoubtedly thrust the family into a very public scrutiny, with the outcome remaining uncertain as the hearing approaches.
