Lisa Carroll, a 96-year-old entertainer, has become an inspiring figure by taking on new challenges later in life. Known for her contributions to film, television, and Broadway, Carroll has recently turned her attention to hip-hop, recognising its appeal to younger audiences and the potential to convey positive messages through the genre.
Carroll’s journey has not been without its challenges. Her life dramatically changed after a car accident during her youth, which almost cost her everything. Over a two-year recovery period, Carroll redirected her ambitions from aspiring opera singer to pop vocalist. Decades later, a similar incident in 1993 would spur another reinvention, as she began to explore the world of hip-hop during her recovery.

“It’s not every day that you see someone my age diving into rap,” Carroll remarked in an interview. “But I truly enjoy it. I realised that while children are drawn to the genre, much of it isn’t suitable for them. I thought it was time to clean it up.”
Fast-forward to today, and Carroll has not only mastered the art of rapping but has also recorded educational tracks, including “Rapping with Dr. Wruth” and “Rappin Roofus.” Her mission with these songs is clear: to engage children with music they love while instilling valuable life lessons that can accompany them as they grow.

In addition to her recording efforts, Carroll has ventured into the toy industry. She developed a range of rapping teddy bears aptly named ‘Lisa’s Hip Hop Homeys’ to further connect with young audiences. The success of these ventures has subsequently led to the creation of Hip Hop Hamilton, a project aimed at teaching kids about historical figures through the lens of music and entertainment.
Reflecting on her life choices, Carroll said, “Life is about opening doors and following paths that allow you to uplift others. It’s all about encouragement and finding joy in helping those in need.” Her heartfelt outlook speaks to her desire to use her platforms for the greater good, encouraging others to know that positive changes often arise from the simplest of deeds.
Currently residing at Inspīr Carnegie Hill in New York City, Carroll continues to draw inspiration for her creative pursuits. Her latest venture is a children’s book titled “Lights! Camera, Lisa!” This work echoes her own life experiences, promoting themes of self-belief, resilience, and the importance of pressing on, even against the odds.
Carroll’s dedication to her newfound passions exemplifies the adage that it’s never too late to pursue one’s dreams. She enthusiastically encourages others to embrace change, illustrating that creativity can flourish at any age. “I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had in my career,” she reflected. “I like to give back in ways that honour what I have received throughout my life.”
With a rich history in the arts and a vibrant future ahead, Lisa Carroll is a poignant reminder that age does not define one’s capacity for creativity or contribution. Her vibrant spirit and commitment to educating children through engaging and fun mediums underline an enduring message: life is what you choose to make of it, no matter what obstacles may arise.
As Carroll continues her artistic journey, she stands as an inspiring figure not just for the elderly community but for everyone, affirming that it is always the right time to learn, explore, and innovate.
