In a heartfelt message to her followers, Gypsy Rose Blanchard has expressed profound gratitude for the support she has received following the unexpected death of her partner, Ken Urker. Urker passed away at the age of 34 on October 1, 2023, on what would have been his birthday, in their home in Louisiana.
The couple, who shared a daughter named Aurora, had rekindled their relationship in 2024 after a rocky past that included prior engagements and separations. Blanchard took to Instagram Stories on October 5 to acknowledge the outpouring of love and condolences she has received during this difficult time, stating, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has reached out with love, prayers, and condolences. I’m sorry I can’t respond to every message, but please know I see them and I’m so grateful.”

In the wake of Urker’s death, Blanchard is not only mourning but also advocating for changes related to online safety, particularly in addressing harassment on social media. She has shared details about her initiative known as Kenan’s Law, which aims to improve how social media platforms respond to repeated harassment reports. Announced shortly after Urker’s passing, the petition aims to enhance accountability and effectiveness in how these platforms deal with users experiencing targeted harassment.
The situation surrounding Urker’s death is currently under investigation. According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, officers were summoned to a residence in Raceland, Louisiana, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on October 1. Upon arrival, they discovered Urker “dead upon arrival.” Reports suggest that drug paraphernalia was located at the scene, which included syringes and a spoon alongside a powdery substance. In an interview with PEOPLE, Blanchard revealed that Urker had been struggling with his mental health and was using alcohol as a coping mechanism during the final days of his life.
Reflecting on her loss, Blanchard shared her disbelief over Urker’s death, describing him as “an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved.” She candidly stated that her love for him will always endure, referring to him as her soulmate and expressing a connection that transcends time and physical boundaries. “He will forever be my soulmate and my red string,” she said.
The couple’s journey has not been without its challenges. Blanchard and Urker’s history includes a prior engagement in 2018 while Blanchard was serving time for the tragic murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Their relationship has seen its ups and downs, with a separation in 2019 and Blanchard’s divorce from Ryan Anderson in 2024 allowing for their eventual reconnection.
In sharing her story of grief and advocacy, Blanchard has launched her campaign with a commitment to prevent others from experiencing the same pain that she has endured. “I only have my daughter and my voice,” she emphasised in her Instagram post. “Before his passing, Ken experienced an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny and what we believed crossed the line into targeted harassment and cyberbullying.”
Describing the ineffective responses they received when reporting this harassment, Blanchard expressed a sense of frustration. “Reports were made across multiple platforms, and far too often, the response was simply: ‘No violation,’” she explained.
Her advocacy work, spurred by her personal tragedy, aims not only to honour Urker’s memory but also to initiate change for others who may face similar challenges. “Ken’s passing has made me determined to turn pain into purpose,” Blanchard stated. “I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s heartfelt message and her pursuit of Kenan’s Law highlights the critical need for better protections against online harassment, and serves as a reminder of the personal struggles that can often lie behind the headlines. As she navigates this profound loss, her commitment to making a difference is both inspiring and necessary in today’s digital landscape.
