A woman from Dallas, Liz Carole, is raising awareness about a potentially dangerous incident involving a scarf after she was hurt whilst leaving a wedding in Kansas City. On September 19, Carole attended a wedding dressed in an elegant floor-length gown complemented by a matching scarf. Following the ceremony, she and her friends opted to order a car to continue their evening at a nearby restaurant before returning for the reception. However, as they settled into the vehicle, a horrifying incident unfolded.
As the driver began to pull away, Carole felt a sudden jolt that pulled her back, causing her to choke on her own scarf. Alarmed, she exclaimed for help, which prompted her friends to notify the driver to stop. Once the vehicle came to a halt, Carole noticed that a section of her scarf had become trapped in the car door and was now entangled around one of the tyres.

In recounting the ordeal, Carole described the experience as shockingly painful. “I was sitting on the other end of the scarf,” she explained. “Instead of it sliding right off, the resistance caused friction burns between my shoulder blades and across my collarbones.” Despite the initial shock and discomfort, Carole was determined to continue her evening plans, as the visible injuries did not seem severe at first glance.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, however, her discomfort intensified. “By the time we got there, the pain was much worse,” Carole noted, highlighting that she could see more clearly that her skin had been damaged. Subsequently, she decided to seek medical attention at an urgent care facility.
The nurses were taken aback by her story, with some admitting they had heard about the incident from colleagues in the hall. Carole recalled that one particular nurse mentioned it reminded him of scenes from the popular “Final Destination” horror film, a comparison she found both amusing and concerning.
The subsequent days following the incident proved to be the most challenging, with Carole enduring the effects of her injuries. “The first three or four days were the worst,” she remarked. However, within a week, the discomfort began to subside, and the burns showed signs of healing. Currently, she is focusing on managing the scars left from the incident.
Since sharing her experience, Carole discovered that she was not alone. She learned of several similar occurrences involving scarves, all happening within a remarkably short timeframe. “What surprised me the most was how many similar stories I found that had occurred recently,” she said.
Through her TikTok post, which has attracted over 253,000 views, Carole hopes to raise awareness and prevent others from facing similar mishaps. “If you’re wearing one of those dresses, just be mindful,” she cautioned in her video, emphasising the importance of wearing accessories with care.
Carole’s story mirrors that of influencer Eli Moulton, who last August reported a near-death experience after her scarf became caught under a moving car, humorously dubbing the garment “the dress that held me in a choke hold.” As these stories come to light, it serves as a safety reminder for those donning fashionable yet potentially hazardous attire.
