Tate McRae, the Canadian singer and dancer, has officially launched her debut fragrance, TATE 01, which she describes as a ‘second-skin scent’. This new venture into the beauty industry was motivated by her admiration for ’90s supermodels and the desire to create a personal touch in her products. The perfume project became a reality on 1st October, with McRae collaborating with Scent Beauty, Inc. and esteemed perfumers from Givaudan, Adriana Medina and Antoine Maisondieu.

The 23-year-old has been attracting considerable attention recently, having completed a successful arena tour titled ‘Miss Possessive’ and headlining at Lollapalooza. Riding the wave of her growing popularity, McRae has seized the opportunity to establish her own brand in the competitive beauty market. “I’ve always wanted to venture off into creating my own business at some point in my life,” she shared in an interview, expressing her excitement about this new chapter.

TATE 01 is characterised by its warm and youthful aroma, starting with notes of sparkling bergamot and clary sage, evolving into a bouquet of white florals. As the fragrance matures, rich undertones of warm amber, creamy tonka bean, sandalwood, and soft woods emerge. McRae hopes the fragrance will enhance the natural warmth of the wearer rather than overpower it, creating a distinctive, personal aura.
One unique aspect of TATE 01 is its incorporation of an ingredient known as iso, which McRae explains amplifies the wearer’s natural pheromones. “I’ve never gravitated towards florals before, but the balance of the woodiness and this ingredient, together, was something that I just kept going back to,” she said, noting how she frequently received compliments after wearing the fragrance.
The inspiration behind TATE 01 draws heavily from the glamour of the 1990s supermodel era. McRae elaborated on how she aimed to marry youthful brightness with warm, woody undertones, reflecting her personal taste and style in the perfume’s composition.
In addition to the scent, the packaging of TATE 01 mirrors its ethos of simplicity and elegance. McRae envisioned a chic, minimalist design that would complement her collection of perfume bottles. “I genuinely just wanted to create something that I personally loved and wanted to put on my shelf,” she reflected on the design process, indicating a desire for timeless appeal.
When discussing her connection to perfumes, McRae revealed that she tends to have a signature fragrance for each phase of her life, noting how certain scents can evoke strong feelings and memories. Over the past year, TATE 01 has become her constant companion, replacing her former go-to perfumes. “I’m someone who sticks to one scent. I wear it in the morning and then I wear it to bed,” she candidly admitted.
Moreover, McRae has been actively updating her look to match her evolving artistic persona. Recently, she lightened her honey blonde hair for her performances at various festivals. “I had a very specific vision of how I wanted to look,” she explained, showcasing her commitment to crafting her identity as an artist.
During her performance at Lollapalooza, McRae made headlines by completing her act in a bath filled with what appeared to be gold paint. However, she clarified that the ‘paint’ was actually a slime created by the team responsible for Nickelodeon’s iconic green goo. Reflecting on the striking visual moment, she said, “So, it looked like paint, and I remember running off-stage right after to shower.”
As for her future creative direction, McRae hinted that the character introduced during Lollapalooza is just a preview of what’s to come. “It’s so fun to start to tap into things in a live performance,” she said, expressing her enthusiasm for developing her artistry. “I’m super excited. I’ve been in the studio a ton, and I have been writing.”
TATE 01 is available for purchase exclusively at tatebytm.com in various sizes ranging from 10ml to 100ml, priced between £30 and £82. The fragrance will also be available at Ulta Beauty, launching online on 16th October and in physical stores nationwide on 25th October. McRae’s new scent is poised to make a substantial impact in the fragrance market, mirroring her rapid ascent within the music industry.
