Private investigator Steve Fischer, engaged by Hillyard’s family to assist in the search efforts, revealed to publications including SFGATE and KNTV that a thorough forensic examination of Amy’s electronic devices has yielded fresh leads. According to Fischer, Hillyard had spent approximately half an hour on the morning of her disappearance researching eight hiking trails spanning from the Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park area to Berkeley, trails previously overlooked by investigators. While authorities were aware of three of these paths, five remain unexplored.
“This is the most significant breakthrough in the case since I got involved,” Fischer commented during an interview, acknowledging the family’s concern while also expressing optimism. “I conveyed to the family that while there are no guarantees, we now have targeted locations for our search efforts.”
On the day she disappeared, Hillyard was last seen leaving her residence on Radnor Road at approximately 2 p.m. She was described as a 5-foot-4-inch White woman, weighing around 120 lbs, with blonde hair and hazel eyes.
