Cibele Marchis, 28, passed away on 24 September, with her mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, following on 25 September. Cibele Marchis died at approximately 4 p.m. at a hospital in Mogi Guaçu, Brazil. Her death was soon followed by that of Maria Elisabete, who was also receiving treatment in a separate hospital. Family members have recounted the heartbreak of the sudden double bereavement. Cibele’s cousin, Rowilson Leandro da Costa, remarked on the profound sadness of the situation, describing the difficulty of returning home to find it empty, as the husband faces the reality of loss.

Cibele’s father, whose identity has been protected to allow him to grieve in privacy, endured the harrowing experience of becoming a widower and losing his only child in the span of a single day. Family members have expressed their sympathy for the husband, noting the unique and tragic nature of his situation. “He lost his family. It’s sad, difficult,” stated da Costa, highlighting the extraordinary grief the father is experiencing.

Cibele had been battling an aggressive form of cancer, which started in her adrenal gland, since her diagnosis in 2024. Her mother, Maria Elisabete, received her own diagnosis of pancreatic cancer a year later, which intensified the family’s plight. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Cibele shared her experience of coming to terms with her illness, recalling the painstaking path to diagnosis. She noted that after numerous tests failed to identify the source of her discomfort, it was a CT scan that ultimately revealed a substantial tumour. Cibele underwent three surgeries as part of her treatment, with the last resulting in a significant infection that necessitated a lengthy stay in intensive care.

As her health journey progressed, Cibele managed to maintain a positive outlook, expressing gratitude even amid her struggles. A video shared by her in March captured her receiving chemotherapy, paired with the inspiring message: “As long as your only problem is money, be grateful. It’s worse to face something that not all the money in the world can solve.” This sentiment reflected Cibele’s resilience and determination not to let illness dictate her identity.

Hailing from a background in digital marketing, Cibele was well-regarded by her peers.
