An 11-year-old boy has tragically died following a shooting incident that took place in a Sydney apartment earlier this month. The boy succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, September 24, three days after being shot in the face. Upon their arrival, New South Wales (NSW) police discovered the boy had sustained a gunshot injury to both the face and neck. Paramedics provided immediate assistance at the location before transporting him to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical state. Superintendent Naomi Moore has given information regarding the investigation, stating that at this stage, the incident does not appear to be directly linked to ongoing conflicts. However, she noted that several individuals present in the apartment are known to police, with connections to organised crime under scrutiny as part of the investigation. Law enforcement agencies are yet to recover the firearm used in the incident, which is key to understanding how the event unfolded.
The community is mourning the loss of the young boy, who was part of Sydney’s Maronite community. His identity has not yet been disclosed to the public. The school he attended expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, classmates, and all those affected by this tragic loss. Our focus is on supporting his family and providing well-being and counselling support to our students and staff during this challenging time.”
