Joe Jonas Recounts ‘Terrifying’ Fall That Trapped Him Between 2 Boats and Had Him Immediately Calling His Kids

Renowned musician Joe Jonas recently shared a harrowing incident during a vacation in the picturesque coastal town of Portofino, Italy. The singer, who is a member of the popular Jonas Brothers, described the experience as both “terrifying” and a fortunate escape from what could have been a far worse situation.

During an appearance on the September 22 episode of The Morgan Stewart Show podcast, Jonas recounted the events that unfolded while he was enjoying a getaway with his girlfriend Tatiana Gabriela and fellow guests Jordan McGraw and Morgan Stewart. The couples had a pleasant time aboard a luxurious yacht complete with a dedicated crew and chef, before deciding to visit a local restaurant along the waterfront.

Stewart elaborated on the group’s plan to arrive at the restaurant, noting that the establishment required diners to use their transfer boat. As the first to board the tender, Jonas faced a sudden and unexpected challenge. The first mate, who had initially assured him of a safe passage, tried to assist but was soon caught up in the chaos that ensued.

Jonas described the moment with considerable intensity, stating that as he made a step onto the tender, a wave forced it away from the yacht, leading him to slip and fall in between the two boats. He recalled, “It sounds like the bougiest problem, but it was terrifying,” emphasising the precariousness of the situation as he struggled between the vessels, one of which had its rear engines running.

Struggling in the water, Jonas found himself fully clothed and with his phone still in his pocket. Following a brief moment of disorientation, he realised that the best course of action was to distance himself from the rocking boat. Despite the crew’s guidance to swim towards the yacht, he feared the dangers presented by the engines. Eventually, he opted to try climbing onto the tender boat.

His attempt, however, was met with difficulties. “The first time I climbed up, I must have hit my shin or something… and then I fell back in,” he recounted. After a moment of sheer adrenaline, he managed to roll himself onto the boat, despite the shock and concern evident on the faces of his fellow passengers.

Once back on solid ground, or rather the tender, Jonas found himself reflecting on the ordeal about an hour later as he settled into the restaurant. He described how the adrenaline gradually wore off, allowing the gravity of the incident to wash over him. “That s— was really scary,” he confessed to Tatiana. “It was really intense.”

The emotional toll of the incident prompted Jonas to reach out to his young daughters, Willa and Delphine, whom he shares with ex-wife Sophie Turner. Feeling the weight of the potentially disastrous consequences, he felt an immediate urge to call them. “I need to see them. I need to see their faces,” he stated, reflecting on the fragility of life and how quickly circumstances can change.

Ultimately, Jonas concluded that while the experience was alarming, he recognised it as “the best outcome of a bad situation.” His story serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges that can arise, even during moments of leisure, underscoring the importance of valuing loved ones and the safety of those around us.
