Detective Dennis O’Connell from the Falls Township Police Department shared in a complaint that they initially responded to a report of an infant with a skull fracture who was later taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia on March 12. The attending physician confirmed that the child, identified as A.S. in the complaint, had suffered a fractured skull due to substantial force, along with blood in her eye and bruising on her leg.

Salt, 36, and his wife initially claimed that the child was in his care on the morning of March 11 while his wife was at work. However, he stated that he couldn’t calm her crying and later noticed a bump on her head at his in-laws’ place. Despite being unable to explain the injury initially, Salt eventually confessed on March 20 that he had lost control when the baby became inconsolable after waking up from a nap in his care. He admitted to pulling her from a swing and intentionally letting her fall to the ground, causing the skull fracture.

Following the confession, Salt was promptly arrested and remains in custody on bail. The infant has been discharged from the hospital, sustaining serious injuries due to this horrific incident. Salt, who also worked as a firefighter and EMT at Northampton Township Fire, should have known how to handle such situations, given his training and experience, noted Detective O’Connell.

The Falls Township Fire Company, where Salt was employed, released a statement announcing his suspension pending the legal proceedings, expressing support for the Salt family amidst the challenging situation.
