Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, best known for her appearances on the reality television show ‘Jersey Shore,’ has recently shared uplifting news about her health. The 38-year-old star revealed that she is now cancer-free, just seven months after being diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Snooki, who underwent a hysterectomy on July 31, expressed her relief and gratitude following a successful surgery.

Reflecting on her journey, Polizzi noted, “As of right now, I am cancer-free. They got everything out. So I’m definitely happy that I did it.” This marks a significant milestone in her battle against the illness, which began with a delayed routine check-up that ultimately led to her diagnosis. “I avoided getting my pap smear for a long time, and once I finally went to the doctors, it’s been week after week of doing a procedure, then another procedure, then a hysterectomy,” she shared, shedding light on the emotional and physical toll of her recent experiences.
Despite her positive news, Polizzi acknowledges that the road to recovery is ongoing. “I’m trying to listen to my body and give my body grace,” she explained, expressing a need to balance her activities. “There are days I do too much and then I just feel exhausted.” Nevertheless, she indicated that she is gradually regaining her strength and feels like she is “almost getting back to [herself].”
In her new health-conscious mindset, Polizzi now prioritises her wellbeing and is vigilant about ongoing monitoring. Her doctors have advised that there is a possibility of the cancer returning, necessitating routine pap smears every three months. Discussing the transformation in her attitude, she remarked, “Getting a cancer diagnosis is very terrifying and scary. So, I just want my body to be as healthy as it can be.” Polizzi has since modified her lifestyle by adopting a healthier diet and maintaining an active routine, whilst staying on top of her medical appointments.
In a bid to raise awareness about cancer detection and prevention, Polizzi has partnered with the non-profit organisation F Cancer. Following her personal journey with cancer, she expressed enthusiasm for hosting the organisation’s milestone 100th event on September 23 at the Academy Nightclub in Los Angeles. “I feel really excited and honoured to host,” she said, adding, “You know, just F cancer,” with a light-hearted laugh, demonstrating her determination to centre her efforts on fighting against the disease.
Julie Greenbaum, co-founder of F Cancer, highlighted the significance of Polizzi’s involvement in the event. She stated, “Knowing what she has personally experienced with her stage 1 cervical adenocarcinoma diagnosis, it means even more to have her help us use this milestone to bring attention to the importance of early detection and being proactive about your health.” The event will feature various personalities, including DJ Pauly D, with a focus on raising awareness and promoting early testing.
Polizzi has also found solace in the support and connection fostered through her online platform, where she candidly shares her health experiences. She described the sense of community that has emerged from her journey, saying, “In the beginning, I felt so alone… I didn’t know anybody going through cervical cancer.” By speaking up, she aims to provide a platform for other women facing similar struggles, creating a supportive environment for them to share their stories.
The connection formed among women sharing similar experiences has proven empowering for Polizzi. “People that got hysterectomies, we call each other ‘hyster sisters’,” she said. “It just makes it less scary because we’re not the only ones going through it. I needed something like that while I was going through it.”
As she continues her recovery and focuses on her health, Polizzi’s efforts to connect with others and raise awareness about the importance of early cancer detection shed light on a crucial issue.
