A man has been apprehended in Slovenia after evading authorities in connection with the 2022 murder of a 15-year-old girl in Tennessee. Seth Walls, aged 23, was taken into custody on 12 September, with the US Marshals Service confirming the news in a statement.

Walls was arrested in Ljubljana, more than 5,000 miles from Millington, Tennessee, where Haley Reedy was tragically killed. At the time of his arrest, he was using an alias and falsely claimed to be from Canada. Law enforcement officials were alerted after a resident, having read about Reedy’s death, recognised Walls and notified security personnel at a bar he frequented. This tip led to his capture.

According to reports, Interpol played a crucial role in identifying Walls. He had been evading capture since fleeing the US in 2022 after posting a $10,000 bond and subsequently failing to attend a scheduled court date, which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued. The U.S. Marshals brought Interpol into the investigation earlier this year, leading to his identification through fingerprints.
Walls was initially charged with second-degree murder and reckless endangerment following the fatal shooting of Reedy on 11 September 2022. While he had reportedly claimed that Reedy had fired the weapon and that he was not present during the incident, investigations revealed otherwise. The Shelby County Medical Examiner determined that the nature of the gunshot wound was inconsistent with a self-inflicted injury, officially ruling the death a homicide.
Following news of Walls’ arrest, Brandee Jones, Reedy’s mother, expressed feelings of shock and relief. “I don’t have to worry about him harming anyone else,” she stated. However, she also expressed frustration with the local judicial process, indicating that there had been a lack of communication and support since the initial stages of the case.
“It’s all been such a tragedy to us,” she added. “We only want justice for Haley.” Jones had long felt that the justice system had failed her and her daughter over the past four years, dealing instead with a series of obstacles and unanswered questions.
Local officials also shared their sentiments regarding the arrest. Millington Mayor Larry Dagen remarked that while this development would not reverse the loss suffered by Reedy’s family, it might offer a pathway towards justice and healing for the community. Sheriff Anthony Buckner praised the coordinated effort among various law enforcement agencies, both local and international, for their role in successfully apprehending Walls.
District Attorney Steve Mulroy likewise acknowledged the dedication of the US Marshals Service, stressing that the arrest underscored their abilities to track fugitives regardless of their location around the globe. The combined efforts have been seen as a vital step in seeking accountability for the crime.
As Walls remains in custody in Slovenia, arrangements are underway for his extradition back to the United States, where proceedings are expected to continue regarding charges in connection with Reedy’s murder. The case serves as a stark reminder of the complexities facing law enforcement, especially when dealing with individuals who attempt to flee across borders to evade justice.
