A 42-year-old man named Julius Hunter has been indicted on multiple charges including rape, aggravated sodomy, and kidnapping, in connection with a harrowing incident involving a 19-year-old woman in Georgia back in 2016. Hunter, who was extradited from Florida, was arrested as part of a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Marshals, local police, and the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

The allegations against Hunter stem from an incident on July 27, 2016, when the young woman responded to a Craigslist advertisement seeking an overnight babysitter. According to authorities, she was lured to an apartment complex in Clarkston, where she was promised $300 for the job. Upon her arrival, however, she discovered that no children were present and was instead confronted by Hunter and another man.
Despite her attempts to leave, the woman was allegedly held captive and assaulted for several hours. Hunter reportedly released her the following day, during which time she managed to contact law enforcement. The victim underwent a medical examination at a hospital, where evidence was collected that would later prove pivotal in the case.
Following the incident, DNA evidence was retrieved from a sexual assault kit, which confirmed the presence of male DNA. Unfortunately, initial efforts to identify the suspect through the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) yielded no results. This system is utilised by law enforcement to align DNA profiles from crime scenes with those of convicted offenders and arrestees.
In a significant development, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation later discovered that the DNA from the Clarkston case matched that of an unidentified perpetrator found in two other sexual assault kits collected in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties during 2016 and 2017. Hunter’s DNA was collected after his arrest in a separate sexual battery case in 2021 and subsequently added to CODIS. This led to the recent confirmation of a match with the Clarkston rape kit.
Authorities noted the troubling similarity in the modus operandi of the unidentified suspect in the cases associated with Hunter. They indicated that previous victims had also been lured through Craigslist ads offering various jobs, including babysitting, modelling, and dancing, often meeting the suspect at the same location. As it stands, investigators fear there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward.
Since his arrest, Hunter has been held at the DeKalb County Jail, where he awaits arraignment. As investigations continue, officials are urging anyone with information regarding Hunter, his alleged crimes, or possible additional victims to come forward.
